DH diagnosed with impaired glucose tolerance - does anyone have any experience of this?

DH was told yesterday he has impaired glucose tolerance - he is already on medication for high blood pressure and this was picked up in his regular blood test.

He was told that he has a 20-50% chance of going on to develop Type 2 diabetes, but that the best way to try and prevent this is to eat a healthy diet and to exercise.

He is going to address the exercise issue, but we already eat a healthy diet - I am on slimming world and he eats the same as me every evening. So we eat loads of fresh veg and fruit, hardly any processed food and minimal saturated fats. Should he try to avoid carbs as well, or at least keep them to a minimum? And does anyone know if there are any supplements/homeopathic remedies he can take that might help?

Is he at all overweight? Getting to a state of trimness, with a healthy hip;waist ratio is important. Diet low in sat fats, no smoking, sensible alcohol, all the usual stuff. He may still get diabetes in the end, but if his other risk factors are controlled he stands the best chance of avoiding complications!Your GP should have a nurse or dietician he can get advice from; otherwise try the website for diabetes UK. A diabetic diet is a healthy diet, and will be suitable for impaired glucose tolerance.
Good luck,

Thanks for that Spockster. He isn't overweight at all, he doesn't smoke, doesn't drink to excess and already has a diet low in sat fats! So we are a bit at a loss as to how to change his diet in order to try and stave off diabetes, hence my question about the carbs and any other alternative remedies.

Will check the diabetes UK site for ideas.
