Despite it being contagious it hasn't spread here, my ds has it.
Shares bath with 2 dd's and they haven't caught it.
I would just avoid sharing towels , flannels etc
Don't think it's anything to be worried about though

Joolyjoolyjoo · 19/01/2009 21:23

Hmm- my dd1 had it, and the doctor told me it shouldn't affect my other two, even though they share a bath (but not towels). Guess what- they have both got it now (even though thankfully dd1 has finally got rid of it) I do think it need to be quite close contact, though, especially as the spots are usually on the body, and therefore covered with clothes.

TheSmallClanger · 19/01/2009 21:24

Basic "infection control" should be enough, like Lilyloo says.

I think I know someone with this, and it isn't serious.

Lilyloo · 19/01/2009 21:26

Definately not serious.
Doctors won't treat it , it will go on it's own.

I think my ds has this - he's got raised lumps/spots, like little warts, around his shoulder/arm pit. Is that right?

Lilyloo · 19/01/2009 21:32

Ds started with one that looked like blister on his nipple.
They have spred to arms and torso.
Some like white spots , some blister , wart like.
I am using elizabelt arden 8 hour cream (reccomended on here) and it is working. Have been using it for 3/4 weeks and spots are definately reducing.

mawbroon · 19/01/2009 21:37

My ds has had this for a few months. He picks them and then they spread around his body, but he never has more than a few at a time.

My GP said that sometimes, they might get a bit of eczema in about the spots, but otherwise just to leave them as they are not a problem.

TheSmallClanger · 19/01/2009 21:37

I've been told that 8 Hour Cream works wonders on lots of skin conditions.

hotCheese, I'd keep an eye on any spots on your DS's armpit. They are probably just spots, but things can get icky in armpits easily.

Anushka · 20/01/2009 14:08

DD2 has also had these. Keep an eye on them as one's on her face got infected as she was constantly picking them! ! But course of antibiotics got it under control(although not cured spots).

She's had them for about 6 months but JUST starting to go hoorah!

DD1 not been affected and they too have shared baths.

Seona1973 · 20/01/2009 14:22

they have quite a long incubation period though. DD has just finished with hers (had them for about a year maybe) and now ds has a couple which have only recently made an appearance.

Anushka · 20/01/2009 14:30

Fab - I thought we had rid them from our lives. I'll keep an eye out. Thanks.

wideratthehips · 20/01/2009 14:31

ds1 has had it for 2.5yrs (hes 4.5 now) and has always shared a bath with ds2 (who is now 23mths) and hasn't picked it up as yet. its you call.....you dc could get it but they could also get it from swimming. its surprisingly common.

because its a virus theres not much treatment and it should go with the childs maturity. ds1 has them all over the back of his legs.

drs. wont do anything about them!
