His sinuses have been boethering him on and off since before Christmas, I told him to go to see the doc when he went back to work, but he hasn't been yet (only went back on Monday)although he has one of those Vicks nasal inhalers and say he can smell it fine so his nose isn't blocked, and he feels - and has been - very sick. He says its fine if he is lying down and not mivng his head
I wondered if it was the sinuses causing this, or just this virus type thing thats going round, as DS1 complained of diziness when he had his cold before Christmas.

Just what I need though, an ill man in the house!

That sounds like he's having a problem with his inner ear, which is probably linked to the sinusitis, in which case the sickness could be motion sickness. Alternatively the whole thing could be a virus (sorry, not very helpful).

If it's an inner-ear problem then a decongestant and a travel-sickness tablet has helped me in the short-term when I've had it. Steam inhalation, or anything else that he would normally do to relieve sinus congestion, may help too.

Have you checked his temperature Saltire? My ds1 once had something like this when the slightest movement (even someone else walking into the room and vibrating the floorboards ) made him sick. He had a high temperature with it though.

MaureenMLove · 10/01/2009 10:03

Could he have a migraine do you think. Those symptoms are very similar to those that I get with a migraine.

Stick him back in bed and tell him to stay there. If nothing else, it'll keep him out of your way all day!

SaltireOShanter · 10/01/2009 10:09

DG (hello) his temp is fine. I have given him some sudafed and 2 syndol, which if nothing else might make him sleep(they make me sleep).

Mo - he has never had a migraine before,(unlike me) but I suppose it could be, although he has no other sympoms that I associate with migraine such as flashing lights, visual disturbancs, blind spots etc - things I get

if he's still being sick get him some buccestem (sp?) - pharmacist should know what I mean! - it's an anti-nausea drug which you don't have to swallow - just dissolves when you put it behind the gum

def sounds like ear-related problem - could be labyrinthitis, which is really horrible so he's not just being an "ill man"

smudgethepuppydog · 10/01/2009 16:48

Inner ear infection? Meneire's Syndrome? Both of those make you feel dizzy which can be bad enough to cause vomitting.

Spacecadet1972 · 10/01/2009 20:24

most likely scenario is that he has a virus which can effect the inner ear..the worst of the dizziness should pass in a day or two then he should get up and move about as much as possible in order to speed recovery..sturgeron available over the counter is great in the short term for the dizziness, but he shouldnt take it for longer than a week, if he doesnt improve..

DumbledoresGirl · 10/01/2009 20:41

god Spacecadet is that really you?

This is sounding rather vertiginous.

My DH had it when we were working in Australia. He too had to lie down or was sick.

He chose to lie down on the beach for 3 days.

Bastard.

There are drugs that can help. Needs to see GP.

SaltireOShanter · 12/01/2009 15:23

Well he spent all Saturday and Sunday in bed and then went into work this morning! Still complianing of a terrible headache and says he isn't so dizzy. He saw the doctor today who told him that he was dehydrated because he was tkaing sudafed, and to go back and drink 2 litres of water and he would be fine.
I spoke to a pharmacist at work and she said she had never heard of anyone being dehydrated after taking Sudafed, especially not short term (3days)
Anyway, he had 2 litres of squash this morning and another this afternoon, and has come home and gone to bed, says his head feels like it will burst

Gosh Saltire, he sounds really bad. Unless he is exaggerating it all (but he is in the services isn't he so not so inclined to be a wimp?) I think he should get himself checked over by a doctor.

What do you think?

CountessDracula · 12/01/2009 19:25

It could be labyrinthitis - I have had before. Makes you feel sick and like you are dizzy
