No, perfume etc really does not do as much harm.

And because you can't passive junk food eat..

I take your points but to be fair (as with repsect) they don't justify smoking continuing to be allowed in any public place.

The ban has spawned a new passtime "smirting" which is flirting while smoking.

The refugees from inside strike up conversations in that comradely way smokers do when they're banned from other places.

So it's a good thing, as it encourages romance.

if we must be polluted on the streets its nice at least to walk into a smoke free building

JoolsToo · 31/03/2005 23:40

On QT? I only watched it up to the bit where they started going on about average incomes - got bored!

Flossam · 31/03/2005 23:46

Ok here are some reasons for it being banned -
It pollutes the air
It makes pubs smell!
It causes a litter problem(the vast majority of smokers don't keep their buts to dispose of properly)
It causes peer pressure in schools
It ages you.
It can kill you
It causes multiple painful and chronic conditions
It can cause the same tings in people who have never even put a cigarett to their lips.
Lots of house fires are caused by them.
They do cause injuries - burns.

I can't think of anymore at the moment - I need to go to bed.
PS I am an ex smoker!!

JoolsToo · 31/03/2005 23:48

LOL! well we've seen it between us cos I only saw the second half!

chipmonkey · 01/04/2005 00:20

PS, one disadvantage me and my friends have noticed is how smelly PEOPLE in nightclubs are. Before the ban all you could smell was smoke. Now you smell every armpit, fart etc.......

Hope you enjoyed your time in Ireland. I am just in from the pub (my bi-annual visit}, and am delighted that I do not reek of stale tobacco. Most pubs here that have the space have built small open air extensions so that smokers can go and smoke without getting wet.

Since the ban has been introduced, smoking rates have dropped, and that surely is a good thing. I am an ex smoker myself, and am in favour of the ban, from a health and safety point of view. It just isn't fair to expect non-smokers to work in a smoking environment
