I have just had this checked out FG, may be polyp (sp?) or fibroids - go and see your GP for a referral. Good luck and don't worry x

Apparently spotting mid period is a menopause symptom... something to do with hormones. But it could be firoids too. I wouldn't worry too much- if it's after sex it should be checked out, but I found a link once- I'll look for it, which said mid cycle spotting can happen.
Are you up to date with smears?

As a one-off, I'd leave it- but if it happens again, go to yr dr.
I had this when I was about 47-48- and looking back, I am sure it was hormonal. (Dip in hormoes mid-cycle.) I did see the dr and they suggested waiting to see if it re-occured- but it only happened once or twice.
As others have said it could be a fibroid, polyp in cervix/uterus or hormones.

mid cycle spotting during ovulation

"Spotting in the middle of your cycle, or ten to fourteen days prior to the start of the next cycle, is normal too. This spotting may occur during ovulation. Mid-cycle spotting may occur for several reasons. When the egg bursts through the follicle, some bleeding may occur. Alternatively, during ovulation, levels of estrogen rise, sometimes prompting the uterus to shed a bit of lining, which shows up as spotting.

Spotting that occurs about a week before the cycle is due, and lasts for less than one day, could be implantation spotting, which happens when a fertilized egg burrows into the uterine lining."

Hope that makes you feel better!
Happy new year

plum- spotting due to ovulation is one reason for it - but there can be other reasons. Not all spotting is due too ovulation, especially in older women.

I think the rule of thumb is- once or twice may be hormonal, and is okay but on a regular basis this needs checking out, and age makes a big difference- not so worrying in 20s and 30s, but in 40s you need to be careful.
