gi have 2 ds and had ds2 6 weeks ago. I put on 2.5 stone and have lost 1.5 stone andthat leaves me with 1 stone to lose. How do i go about it?? I have never had to lose weight before. i only put 1.5 stone on with ds1 and it fell off. Have always been slim and i guess putting on the extra weight plus being older now is against me. I have no idea where to start. joining the gym id like to do but not really feasible as no one to have ds's and wont put ds2 in creche until had jabs.

i eating healthy-ish and drinking alot of water. snack on nuts and a vegetarian. dont have time to sit and eat cake (i wish!) the weight is all on my tummy (obv!) and my hips. am physically fine and back to normal, normal birth. Do i join either of the above? What are they like? Is it a long term thing?

any help id appreciate it! Feel very lost with all this!

well if you're a vegetarian SW might be good for you as you can eat unlimited pasta/rice/potatoes. Might have to cut down on the nuts though.

I don't know if money permits, but I would recommend getting a personal trainer- even for just 2-3 sessions, to show you which exercises you can do at home.
You need to be a bit careful as you are only 6 weeks PN.

To lose weight you need to exercise AND reduce calorie intake; eating less will not keep it off long term.

Personally, I would never join WW or anything like that, as I feel it encourages people to think about food all the time and sometimes eat meal replacements instead of changing their lifestyles. BUT some people swear by them, so each to their own!

Maybe just being very aware of your calories intake might help- veggies tend to eat lots of cheese and past, ime, and cheese and nuts are very high in calories. You need to have a shortfall of 200 cals a day to lose a pound or so a week.

Maybe replace the nuts with fruit or raw veg?

If you are BF you still need a full range of nutrients, and maybe now is not the best time to really cut back? Maybe increasing exercise is the way?

SW makes you eat a balance of dairy/calcium, grains, protein and carbs each day. It encourages people to think about their portioning and eating a balance of the right foods IMO.

Perhaps you could go along to a group and talk to the consultant before commiting to doing it to get an idea of whether it would suit you.

There are a lot of packet foods that you can eat and I have found it easy to stick to in the past, but as you can eat fruit and veg continuously I find it really healthy.

WW would be good for you. You can join with only 5lbs to lose, so they would happily help you. It is all about eating healthily and very sensible

Here's a link for the vegetarian trial menu www.slimmingworld.com/healthy_eating/free_trial_menu.aspx

They are also the only diet programme recommended by GPs

Sorry - I sound like an obsessive now don't i?

I just found it really easy to do and not too restrictive and am plannign to go back to it in the new year. And I know loads of people who have lot weight on it - my sister lost 5 stone.

tazmosis · 30/12/2008 17:06

If you've already lost 1.5 stones in 6 weeks, then I would give yourself a bit longer and see if the extra stone comes off naturally. 6 weeks isn't very long...

honestfriend · 30/12/2008 17:10

Are you BF? I lost loads of weigh when I was ans had to eat lots to keep my weight up!

mad4mybaby · 30/12/2008 19:55

i've always sworn by Slimming world, arguing that it really is just a healthy eating plan and is sustainable

however

my uncle and mum are on WW and have lost an incredible 6st btwn them ... suddenly i have a lot of time for WW! ww is good if you enjoy snacking cos they have so many brabded products that are low in points...
