Anyone changed their diet drastically after Gall Bladder Removal? Need some advice

I had my gall bladder removed just under 2 years ago. Since then I haven;t had HUGE problems, but I have been aware that I cannot eat heavy cream foods or fry ups otherwise I feel sick and have to continuallt go to the toilet which can be very annoying if out for a meal, or at this time of year with big meals etc.

So, I have come to the decision that I need to drastically change my diet, I know it is not good generally but, searching on the net, I can see that I need to cut out coffee and processed foods and dairy and certain types of fat but i don't have a clue how or where to start as I have never had to watch what I eat or follow any specific diets.

Does anyone know of any books or websites that would assist me in my quest?

Sorry, dont know any as I didnt really research... but do find cream/fat does not agree with me so I just tend to avoid it. Cheese is my downfall tho, cant resist it and it causes havoc with my digestive system.

Me too re the cheese. I LOVE it and yet, if I eat too much I end up actually physically throwing up Mind you it was probably cheese that caused the gall stones in ths first place

i have been trying so hard to be careful, but i need educated as to which fats to avoid etc. i thought cheese was ok for me until this holiay, i really enjoyed the cheeseboatd, but paid for it the next day. usually, though, i pay almost immideiately after eating something i shouldn't have

If I eat a heavy fat diet now, my gall stones play havoc and I get very painful attacks (can't have it removed until DC2 is born)......does this mean that after removal, it doesn't improve and I still won't be able to eat cream / curries / cheese?

When I first got gall bladder problems, I was advised to read Rosemary Conely's Hip & Thigh diet as she devised this after suffering herslf...I got a copy from e-bay for 99p....may be worth a read....

thanks littlemiss, I'll take a look for that on ebay just now. I, like you, suffered through my 2nd pregnancy with gallstones. The surgeons actually offered to operate on me while pregnant
I think that everyone is different and I know that there is medication that can be prescribed. I no longer suffer the pain, just quick dashes to the toilet when I eat fatty foods . I'd rather have that than the gallstone attacks!

The advice used to be (when I was a slip of a Student Nurse) that after a gall bladder removal you needed to be on a low fat diet for life, because the "bag" which held the bile, had been removed,so the bile is trickling slowly all the time, instead of alot being released when "activated" by a large fatty meal.

Having said that,my Dad had one,and although he ate a "healthy" diet afterwards,he is able to eat cream etc.in moderation.

My mum had hers removed a few years ago, and swears it was a dreadful op - took ages to recover. And she still feels bad if she eats cream etc.
I find stress exacerbates mine, but I seem to be down to an annual (around Christmas!) attack, so I'd rather put up with that.
I don't eat any processed foods or much dairy anyway, so it's not too difficult.
