Somebody close to me informed me today that they have just contracted herpes -don't worry i'm not going to be all hysterical thinking i'm going to catch it
I really want to support said person, she has contacted it from her bf and was aware he was a sufferer, they were careful but evidently not enough. She is absolutely mortified and said she is both in a lot of pain and discomfort. when she contacted an out of hours gp she received absolutely no support or advice and was told basically that it was tough. I am the only person said person has told and therefore want to give her as much support and advice as i possibly can. If there is anyone on here who knows anything about this please help me to help her TIA

Best thing for her to do is to get along to the first open Sexual Health clinic she can on Monday - they are usually drop in and really helpful and kind

second cmotdribbler. She needs to go to a GUM clinic asap.

This can be a very painful condition and whilst there are no treatments per se, she can be given aciclovir in tablet form which will shorten the length of the virus. The first time people contract herpes they can sometimes end up in hospital as they stop drinking water in order to stop them from weeing which can be incredibly painful.

Salty baths may help a little bit.

The first attack is invariably the worst and most painful by far. She may well never have another attack in her life. Or very mild attacks that are not painful. As the years pass even people with chronic recurrences get them less and less often and experience fewer and fewer symptoms. It's very common.
