my dd1 came down with it on christmas eve. it is everywhere. she is so itchy. the poor wee thing she is being so brave. also what are the chances of dd2 getting it and when- we fly to south africa in 14 days from now and it would be such a shame to be infectious so we couldnt go!!

I found that Aqueous calamine cream worked really well on my dd and my niece when they has the pox. Not as drying/irritating as plain calamine

Luke warm bath - wrap a big handful of porridge oats in a j-cloth or fine mesh cloth, run under the tap (I hang mine round the tap). Squeeze it as well to get the liquid into the bath.

Very soothing.

Calamine lotion on the spots when out of the bath.

Have posted on the other thread about porridge oats. It really bizarrely seemed to work (only I had younger ds who also got it, and had muslin cloths to hand and used those instead of the sock).

See you've already used piriton. apart from that really, not much that can be done.

Oh and chances very good that dd2 will have it I'm afraid. Incubation is about 2 weeks from appearance of spots in your dd1

Fingers crossed for you!

Lookwarm bath with pepermint tea, my Dcs found it very soothing. (just put 2/3 pepermint herbal teabags in bath water (do not drink the bath, I repeat do not drink the bath!)

I found Medised much better than Piriton, which made no difference with ny dd's,

Also bicarb, by the potful in the bath(which they would have 3 or 4 times a day)

My dh caught it from dd's 2 weeks after they had had it 3 days.

HTH, and your lo starts feeling better.

MrsSanta · 26/12/2008 17:06

piriton,stopped/helped wih itching and calomine.
dd was 4.5 and ds was 5 months.

I second the calamine cream rather than the lotion - much more soothing easier to use and less messy to apply - my 3 all had it 2 years ago - DS1 then DD 2 weeks after that - then DS2 2 weeks after that......
