It's sort of at the base of his skull at the top of his neck at the back on the right hand side. Its about the size of a pea and sort of soft to palpate and he says it doesn't hurt at all, even when prodded. I'm sure we'd have noticed if it had been there before, but I cut his hair the other day and didn't notice it then. Any ideas or anyone have any experience of this kind of thing. I'm inclined to try not to panic and just make an appointment as soon as the surgery re-opens on Tues. On the other hand, it's niggling me a bit. He is just getting the beginnings of a cold - are there any glands in that area that might swell?
Anyone have any ideas or experience of this kind of thing? He is seven.

no, me neither! hmm
Will see what the gp advises anyway....worry worry worry..........(more about the possible removal than the lump itself I think) - don't think ds will like the idea at all!

Have you seen GP yet, Aero?

Anyone still watching this thread? My baby daughter has a lump on her forhead just near the start of her left eyebrow. 2 GPs have said it's a harmless cyst but we might have to 'do something about it' if it keeps growing. She was born with it but it was barely noticeable then. Now it's about malteser size - not huge but big enough when it's on a 3 month old's face. Anyone got experience of cysts that keep growing or of having them removed? I think JanH mentioned 'popping it out' - does that leave a big scar? It would have to be done under a general I presume, as she's so young. We're seeing GP again in a couple of weeks but if anyone has any reassuring advice I'd welcome it.
