Anyone have any ideas how to loosen up a really dry tight painful cough

I have had this since Monday and have been feeling generally unwell since then - aches and pains, shivering, no fever but just so unwell.

Am struggling trhough today with DCs but my cough is so painful and my chest so painful.

Usually after four days it would have loosened which although still unpleasant doesn't give you that awful dry tight feeling.

Have been taking nurofen and sinple linctus. Any other ideas - I also had a steamy bath this morning.

No appetite whasoever. Having plenty of drinks.

SOunds like the bug that's going round our house atm - dd is better now, I am more or less there but poor dh is flat out with it today

Try steam inhalations with Olbas Oil - anything with menthol helps. I got some menthol lozenges too - they helped a bit.

i usually make a batch up using 1 lemon, 2 tablespoons of honey and 2 tablespoons of glycerine. Heat the lemon by boiling it in water for 10 minutes, cut it in half and squeeze out the juice. Mix with the glycerine and honey then take a teaspoon of it as needed.

You could steam over a bowl of hot water, that should at least give temporary relief. Other than that, a hot toddy is rarely a bad thing, although IME, gin is better than the traditional whiskey.

Hope your feeling better soon

thanks had a steam before lunch, and have just been back to bed for a couple of hours.

Up again now (poor DCs have been left to fend for themselves)

Seems to get better at night.
