reindeercantdancethetango · 21/12/2008 00:12

labyrinthitus?

Dragonbrandybutter · 21/12/2008 00:12

do you eat your dinner on the waltzer?

LoveBeingAMummyKissingSanta · 21/12/2008 00:13

Thanks. how much can this change in reality? DD is 9 months and had excellent levels when pg, did breast feed and certainly not eating as well as I was when pregnant......Anything else I should watch out for if it could be that?

  1. get your blood pressure checked anyway
  2. are your ears ok
  3. have you got or recently had a stiff neck

Inner ear infections, usually viral, don't hurt at all but can cause dizziness (vertigo) cos they interfere with your balance organ. Most noticeable when you change the position of your head.

Stiff neck - can cause transient vertigo - affects the vagus nerve; visiting a decent massage therapist and/or osteopath/chiropractor will sort that out for you, if it isn't 1) or 2).

Dragon your so funny . Don't think its my ears, used to suffer loads when little. Not got a cold. Why would blood pressure go down? Don't know much about this one.

reindeer - no idea what that is??!!???

not really. just pop and see the GP for a blood test.

it could also be what the others suggested. An inflamation of the ear thingy (shaped like a shell. I'm brain dead now, sorry). It should go in a week or so but it's best to get a diagnosis from your GP and not a radiography student/ex student paeds nurse.

Thumbelf - Would it just effect my neck?

OP posts:
thumbElf · 21/12/2008 00:17

even if you don't currently have a stiff neck it could still be that - I had an accident which cracked my collarbone and shunted my neck out a little - it took a few months before I started getting the vertigo and a few years before I got it sorted by seeing an osteopath - having been through the ENT dept at the hospital and told I had a damaged inner ear and there was no cure. The osteopath fixed it and I only get it now if my neck goes "out" again.

You are all so fab.

Would it show in any other ways/symptons?

Any problems if not dealt with?

OP posts:
scrooged · 21/12/2008 00:20

Not really but if it's related to your blood pressure then it could cause problems (ie, make you faint) so it's best to get it checked by the GP.

thumbElf · 21/12/2008 00:20

well, no, you might notice it more in your shoulders and upper back than your neck, if you have a problem; but you probably would notice that your neck was less mobile or more uncomfortable than normal.

the labyrinth is the inner curly bit in the ear, so labyrinthitis is pretty much the same as inner ear infection.

LoveBeingAMummyKissingSanta · 21/12/2008 00:21

Just wondered cause have been suffering with my back which i out down to breastfeeding and the unsupportive bra's had been wearing but month later its defo started again.

Sounds most like labyrinthitis or BPV (benign positional vertigo).

Unlikely to be low Fe or BP, as it is not constant or worsened by standing.

See your GP Monday.

LoveBeingAMummyKissingSanta · 21/12/2008 00:22

So is there anything I can do ???

Thanks Emma

if it was an inner ear infection you might notice a feeling of nausea as well, like seasickness. (had that too)

If it's BP then what scrooged said

If it's the neck, well i was having problems walking straight sometimes, i.e. I have been known to veer off into a wall for no reason (looked drunk, SOOOO wasn't) which can cause bruising and tutting from others. Plus the feeling of having a bubble in/around the head isn't very nice. Plus, this is also positional so suddenly throwing your head around, while laughing for e.g., could send me off balance and I could have fallen.

It's very tiring and quite worrying if you don't find out what's causing it, even if you can't get it fixed.

Labyrinthitis lasts about 5 days tops. neck problems last until you get the neck fixed. BP needs to be checked and kept an eye on by GP.

There are more serious possibilities but I doubt you are in that bracket.

thumbElf · 21/12/2008 00:28

it does sound like it might be neck/shoulder/upperback strain putting pressure on the neck and thus the vagus nerve. Some osteopaths offer free initial consultations, you could see if there is one in your area that does this - they could tell you then if it appears to be causing your problem and you can decide whether or not to have treatment for it.

LoveBeingAMummyKissingSanta · 21/12/2008 00:32

Thanks Thumb - don't worry I'm don't think I ahve a brain tumour or anything like that. Surpose just trying to figure out if its worth bothering the doc or not. There are a couple of things going on at moment so was kind of wondering if these wouldahve been mentioned I guess.

Bit stressed at mo, dad just been diagnoised with colon cancer. Still suffering a bit from carpol tunnel, following pregnancy which I am pretty sure I also have tarsal tunnel.

Now I'm sitting here and its quiet, when I swollow it does sound like when your ears pop!!!

thumbElf · 21/12/2008 00:40

LBAMKS - good, glad you said that not me!
this is a link to Meniere's disease which is the other of the more serious (in terms of treatability) conditions - see if any of it sounds familiar.

Stress, carpal tunnel, popping ears - sounds like you have a lot of upper body tension (loads of people carry stress in their shoulders which can move into the neck - the trapezius muscle has a lot to answer for) - if yo can afford it, go get a massage. Or see the osteopath.

But only after you've been checked by the GP for low BP, low iron etc.

LoveBeingAMummyKissingSanta · 21/12/2008 00:47

Thanks so much Thumb, really appricate your time. Will go and see Doc to get checked, need to really before I go back to work as on Pc all day.

Dh wanted to know what ese to get me for Xmas so will 'suggest' he pays for a massage!

Merry Christmas!
