free north of the border too

EachPeachPearMum · 10/12/2008 21:23

ours starts at £2.50 for 1 hour, and I think £3.50 for 2 hours dread to think after that- I wouldn't dare stay any longer.
For my antenatal appointments I always park a 10 minute walk away tbh. It is such a rip-off.
I dread to think how much you would spend if you had a relative/friend as an in-patient.

SoWhat · 10/12/2008 21:28

Free here too - Scotland

Wheelybug · 10/12/2008 21:33

Kingston - £1.80 first hour and then goes down for longer stays (i.e. total cost goes up but cost per hour goes down).

St George's, tooting - £1 per half hour I think but goes up the longer you stay but you can get a weekly £10 ticket if you speak nicely to sister on the ward.

The worst one I know (and this is my specialist subject as I have to travel to a lot of hospitals for work) is Norfolk and Norwich - comes to 11 quid for a day.

Bristol Oncology is 9 quid for a day - a fiver for a morning.

The Royal Marsden, Sutton was a magnificent 1.50 for as long as you needed last time I visited.

Lulumama · 10/12/2008 21:40

£3 , i get out free when attending meetings and doulaing though. also, you can buy a pass for £10 for a week, and get £5 refund when you return it

SparklyBaubleFeast · 10/12/2008 21:43
  • Up to half an hour - £1.00
  • Up to 2 hours - £2.00
  • Up to 4 hours - £4.00
  • Up to 24 hours - £6.00

blinking expensive imo

SparklyBaubleFeast · 10/12/2008 21:46

but £4 no matter what!
on the other hand, surely quite unlikely that you will be there for half an hour only.?

cheshirekitty · 10/12/2008 21:46

Have money taken out of my wages every month (staff). Got a parking ticket once because there were no places and I was going to be late for my shift so parked on a yellow line.

Our hospital made nearly £1 million pounds in car parking fees last year, and still do not salt the car parks/roads properly.

Probably goes towards the chief executives bonus.

southeastastra · 10/12/2008 21:50

i have been there for half an hour twice this month, one to collect a prescription and once for an appointment

Here we get the first 40 minutes free and then it is £2.70 but that is for any time over the first 40 minutes. SO if we are there all day it would cost £2.70. Also here we can pay £2.70 at the security desk and they will validate it for 24 hours. So you can come and go if you need to.
Helpful for DH when I was in maternity home.

isawmodernartkissingsantaclaus · 10/12/2008 21:53

0-3 hrs is £2.50
3-7 hrs is £5

"but £4 no matter what!

DS and I were in hospital for 4 days when he was 9mo, he had bronchiolitis. DH came back and forth from home and had to pay £4 each time as the overground car parks were full all day and the multistorey you have to pay your £4 to exit.

SparklyBaubleFeast · 10/12/2008 22:28

that's a total rip off megbussett .. and as we know the money goes firstly to the security guards who patrol the car parks... rathe rthan the actual hospital

SantaKLAWs · 10/12/2008 22:34

am in Scotland but my hospital is one of those who still have private contract so each visit is £1.70. Thankfully i am usually there for MSLC meetings of BF Peer support so claim expenses back.

Am pretty shocked at the charges some of you are telling us about! £1.70 a visit seems pretty tame now.....

SugaryTits · 11/12/2008 09:40

mrsmaidamess, funny you should say that. My DH spent my whole first labour panicing about the car, I was pushing around the time the ticket expired and he wanted to leave to get a new one! Luckily the midwife had some harsh words for him!

catweazle · 11/12/2008 22:17

Ours is 0 - 3 hours £1.70
3 - 8 hours £2.70
8 - 24 hours £6.00

ThingOne · 11/12/2008 22:25

Mine is £2.40 for two hours. At the moment they are doing a scheme where I can pay just £1 when I have chemotherapy sessions but when I see the oncologist (after every one or two chemo cycles) I have to pay full price. Eh? It's part of the chemo treatment. . Pisses me off greatly.
