it's ok, not too bad at all. like a smear really, mine hurt for a couple of days after but was expecting that.

cod would have suggested you drink wine beforehand

Lulumama · 08/12/2008 19:45

i had mine fitted 7 weeks post natal, so everything was still a bit, erm, open! nipped a bit when she had to hold my cervix, but other than that, it was fine, i did not need painkillers and was not dizzy or faint after. bleeding after was more of a PITA

jooseyfruit · 08/12/2008 19:58

nowhere near as bad as i'd imagined.

like a period pain-ey mild ache.

felt a bit wobbly after, but just necked some ibuprofen.

stillenacht · 08/12/2008 19:59

its ok - a bit more painfl than a smear but over pretty quickly

DoubleBluff · 08/12/2008 20:00

i found it painful but i struggle having a smear. Would def tak epainkillers before hand. And don't plan much for th rest of the day. i felt a bit wobbly after.

twoluvlysnowmen · 08/12/2008 20:00

it hurt like hell.suggest you take painkillers before you go.no problems or pain afterwards.

Ruby2shoes · 09/12/2008 18:54

Hurt and I took 3 paracetamol about an hour before! But dont let that put you off as it seems from reading posts on MN that most people have no probs with it and at the most it is just a slight discomfort. Apparently its not common to go into cervical shock.(I did )

Drusilla · 09/12/2008 18:57

I had mine done about 7 or 8 weeks post partum and really hardly felt a thing. I was told at that stage my cerv ix would still be "soft" but have no idea if that is actually true or not. Don't recall any bleeding afterwards either.

BlaDeBla · 09/12/2008 18:58

Mine was fine. You can take painkillers if you like. I forgot and it didn't hurt at all.

tinseltwiddler · 09/12/2008 18:59

Worse than a smear (about twice as bad)
Doesn't come near the pain of giving birth!

CrushWithEyeliner · 09/12/2008 19:00

what is cervical shock?

LilRedWG · 09/12/2008 19:06

Have you had a vaginal birth?

I hadn't, so have a teeny tiny oss. Doctor couldn't get it in and sent me to local GUM clinic to have it done with a local.

Still hurt like buggery and I found it very upsetting (reminded me of how you feel after a ERPC and brought back bad memories).

That being said - most people have no problems at all!

beforesunrise · 09/12/2008 19:35

Ruby- please do NOT tell me what a cervical shock is, i am going to try really hard not to google it either!

i have had two vaginal births without pain relief so hopefully it won't be too bad.

thanks for all your replies!
