Kids/dog all sorted.
Bags packed ready.
House tidy.
Presents wrapped and back in the loft!

I am really trying not to worry about the op and i am sure all will go fine. But there is always that small worry in the back of my mind, what if something goes wrong!

Wish me luck please.

noiamnot · 08/12/2008 12:40

GOOD LUCK.

ds1's violin teacher just had this done last week. They were able to do key hole surgery and she said she was up and around with no problems whatsoever in a couple of days.

TortoiseRidesaReindeer · 08/12/2008 12:42

That is good to hear noiamnot. I need to be able to get to dd1 and dd2s nativity thursday night!

Hospital just phoned.
Bad shortages, OP cancelled.

Bed*

MaryBeWaiting · 08/12/2008 17:53

That's a shame... its so frustrating for you! Still, at least you'll be able to enjoy the nativity

I had keyhole too, and was up and about quite quickly, but I don't think I could have coped with a nativity 2 days later!

TortoiseRidesaReindeer · 08/12/2008 18:17

Yes i will which is a good thing. And i can get the last of the Christmas bits this week instead of waiting until i felt well enough!
Christmas dinner won't be as good though! And chocolates will have to come off the shopping list.

OP posts:
MaryBeWaiting · 08/12/2008 18:53

Argh, forgot about that

Or you can do what I did and have a good time, but take the tablets the Dr gave me in case I had an attack . Not ideal, but at least you can enjoy yourself...

TortoiseRidesaReindeer · 08/12/2008 18:56

The only tablets i have had from the drs is pethadine pain killers! Very effective for the pain but make me very spaced out lol!

sorry to hear it was cancelled. You were probably geared up to have it over and done before the holidays.

Did they give you a date?

No new date given yet. Will have to be after Christmas now though!

you wil be fine, i had mine out last year, you will feel groggy for the first few days but i was back working in our scrap yard 2 weeks later.

TortoiseRidesaReindeer · 10/12/2008 21:39

Thanks liznadlulu. That is good to know. Now just need to wait until beds are avaliable to have it done whenever possible!

OP posts:
lizandlulu · 10/12/2008 21:44

well i hope it is soon, it must be horrible not knowing when you will be having it done. worse when you have got a family to sort out

zazen · 10/12/2008 21:49

sorry to hear you were all dressed up and nowhere to go! how frustrating. I have mine out with keyhole surgery and it took me a full week before I was able to go camping and hiking, and sleeping in a tent.

My sister was in agony for two weeks after hers as they had found a stone actually wedged into her bile duct and they had another two hours in theatre poking it out gently so as to not rupture the duct She was fine after that though.

I hope your stones are all behaving themselves and you have a lovely xmas. Have your tried buscopan? it stops spasms and can be very effective to get over an attack.

Take a large pain killer before you go in to have your stitches removed a few days after the op - my nurse had to dig around for mine in my belly button - twas worse than anything!!!!

I also found that eating apples made me much much worse afterwards - I had serious pain with apples even after the op and any pork or fats for at least a year.

Maybe the chocs will be off for a while but the op itself isn't to bad at all

TortoiseRidesaReindeer · 10/12/2008 21:51

yes it is difficult. Especially as a single mum with no family near by. was relying on a friend to have my 2 DDs while my 2 DSs went to their dad overnight. (DDs dad only allowed supervised contact)

OP posts:
TortoiseRidesaReindeer · 10/12/2008 21:53

zazen No i haven't tried that, thanks. Not really had much trouble with the stones for a few months. But i am trying to eat carefully. I think they said i would have the disolvable stitches.

OP posts:
lizandlulu · 11/12/2008 09:18

i didnt have to have any stitches removed either.
i was also wary about my diet after but the doc said i would be able to have anything and it not affect me at all. it is true, i can eat anything and have no problems. but i before i was diagnosed as having gall stones, it wasnt affected by what i ate. no one thing brough on the pain which is why it went undiscovered for more than a year. my gp said it was indegestion

TortoiseRidesaReindeer · 11/12/2008 21:47

lizandlulu I haven't found what triggers mine either. I mentioned Gall stones to my Dr because i had asked on MN what the pain was and many said gall stones. Otherwise i was just saying it was severe wind!

OP posts:
lizandlulu · 12/12/2008 10:14

mine just felt like a blockage, like my food had not gone down and was stuck in my chest. i kept trying to make myself sick, thinking if i made the food come up, the pain would go away.
sometimes i would have to lay down and be in so much pain i could not move for hours on end.

when i went to the gp. i told her where the pain was and she said it would be indegestion. she did ask about what meals i had had before the pain started, but there was nothing to pinpoint the start of it.
i was 26 and i think the doctor thought i was too young to have them.

one eventually blocked off my pancreas and i developed pancreatitis and yellow jaundice so i took myself to hospital where they said if i had left it much longer to go i could have died

zazen · 12/12/2008 10:31

Lizanslulu - I was 25 with mine and they thought I was anorexic, as whenever I ate anything I'd puke. They thought I was making myself puke!!

I have a strong family history of wonky fat metabolism. mother sister and father have had theirs out early.

It took me a year banging on at them to give me an ultrasound, at which they said, in a really surprised voice, 'oh you have gall stones' DUH!

I couldn't eat anything fatty and especially fatty meat. I ended up eating dry biscuits. I was 6 and a half stone.

I can eat apples now as they put a stent in to keep the bile duct open, I only found out about the stent when I had to have an xray as I had kidney stones - another OUCH!!

Sounds like you were caught just in time liznadlulu - phew!
