dd, aged 2, has vomitted hourly since 8pm last night, saying that we've almost gone 2 hours this time, she's asleep at the moment. She has a constant temperature of 39'C that calpol hasn't touched, then again it's probably not in her for long enough to be fully absorbed. I've given it 3 times all immediately after vommitting, she's also taking sips of water that don't come back up straight away

It wasn't anything she ate, her siblings and I had the same. So I pressume it's just a nasty bug. She is absolutely exhausted, pale and thin, (don't they waste away quickly). If she continues to vommit this pm I will ring the on call doctor.

dh is at work and I suppose I'm feeling the effects of a crap nights sleep and no adult company, just had to cancel a boozy night tonight with friends because she's too ill.I feel better for 'talking' and do I feel like I'm doing everything I should be but any advice on how to make dd more comfortable would be welcome....

Smartie, rotavirus is just a virus that causes vomiting and diarrhoea. There's a factsheet on rotavirus here .

If it's any consolation, this stuff escapes from nappies anyway (I think this thread should now carry a warning about not eating at the same time as reading it).

Droile, I don't know why your dh had both ends going at once, but bugs just affect different people differently I suppose and adults do tend to suffer less severely from tummy bugs.

Our ds is so much better now. He is eating like a horse and has lots of energy between naps, although he is still tiring easily and wanting longer naps than usual. I am starting to reintroduce dairy products because he is just so hungry and he usually gets a lot of his calories from dairy. BTW, you can give meat as well as veg and fruit - I gave him chicken and beef.

Hope your little ones continue to improve too.

Oh dear, not sure my brainy suppository idea is going to work if there is explosive diarrhoea around - eurghhh. Anyway you should be able to get them over the counter I think... actually I've never bought them here, usually in france, so I don't know. Worth a try, though

DS2 (10 months) has done an impression of the exorcist again tonight.
I hope this doesn't mean he's starting all over again.
DH and I are both better now. A bit of retail therapy did the trick fo me today, along with lots of lucozade.
Poor baby though, he can't keep anything down.

Hi Smartie and Droile, how are you and the sick babes (and adults) doing?

smartie · 20/03/2003 09:40

Thanks for asking Gingernut, dd2 not had either d or v since Tuesday night, ate very little yesterday, but appetite appears to be returning today.

Ds appears a bit better this am, but Tuesday night he started with a chronic headache, sore tummy and fever. I'm treating him with a homeopathic remedy, (as I did for dd2) seems to ease the pressure in head. Who knows if it's helping...

Droile does 'an impression of the exorcist' mean that his head swivelled 360'? That's cool if not a little scary. Or have I got the wrong film? Hope he wasn't ill whatever.

Hi gingernut & smartie.
projectile vomiting. never having seen the film, I was under the impression that this was what went on. The head swivelling - now that might get the GP off his fat backside. (Only joking.)
Everyone seems much better today. DS2 hasn't been sick since Tuesday, still a bit clingy though. DH shook it off like a man, the swine. I wouldn't say no to a day in bed, but t'was ever thus.
Thanks for asking.
