Seizure- out of the blue- anyone else heard of this?

Hi- went to bed early the other night- woke up to find 3 paramedics in the bedroom. I'd had a seizure- witnessed by DH who called 999 when I didn't come round. I've never had one before and they carted me off to hospital- they found white blood cells in my urine and signs of a kidney infection so I'm on anti biotics and waiting for a CT scan to make see if they can find the cause. My doctor has told me not to drive at all in case its epilepsy, thats fine but I'm more worried about if it happens again when I'm bathing DD (aged 3 months) and DS (2years). Does anyone have any experience or thoughts/ advice? I'm stressed to bits about it. please help xxx

Aww browncat how frightening for you. Are they sending you an appt in the post? Hopefully it won't be too long and then you can get some answers. Take care x

Hi browncat,Poor you. I had a seizure in 2001 out of the blue, CAT,MRI scan and bloods came back normal, and it was put on my records as seizure of unknown cause. 3 more seizures in 6 years and I was diagnosed with epilepsy last month, but I also suffer from complex partial seizures which were causing allsorts of problems.

They are very scary, and with regards to bathing, you really shouldn't do it if on your own in the house, could it wait til the evenings when DH could be there?

Also my neurologist said lots of childen and adults have seizures to due illness or infection/temperatures,and they never happen again. A friend had a seizure from too much alcohol!
Please try not to stress, they should arrange your tests very quickly, and hopefully get some answers.

Hi I had the exact same experience last year. At night, I was feeling a bit funny and thought I was going to be sick so I stood up to make my way to the bathroom when the next thing I was aware of was paramedics in the bedroom trying to get me to come round. My DH had witnessed this too and saw me having a seizure on the floor after the loud crash woke him as I fell down onto the floor. My local a and e after much deliberation decided to send me home without an MRI or CT scan and just put it down to one of those things. They didn't even mention the danger of driving, bathing children on my own etcetera. For a while afterwards I felt very shaky when in the house on my own but since then I have just got on with things. It does worry me but I am just going to put it down to one of those things unless it happens again and then I would re-think it. I think you can probably have a one off seizure so maybe you shouldn't worry too much though.

I had a one off seizure a month after the birth of my first baby last year and was taken into hospital A&E by ambulance for a morning. They did various tests but couldn't find any cause and the neurology consultant more than 2 months later thought it was just a one-off - he said people normally develop epilepsy much earlier or much later in life (I was almost 38 at the time). Like keevamum there was no mention of not doing things, though I don't drive anyway. (have never learned).

a friend of mine had her one (and so far only) seizure at the grand old age of 56. She was told she couldn't drive for a year, but that was about 4 years ago, and no repeat of it. She went to let the dog into the garden in the morning and when she was out there must have fallen and had her seizure. she knew nothing about it until when she went back upstairs to get dressed, her dh said "why is your fac bleeding, what's hapened" she went bak outside to se huge pool of blood, so she must have laid on the floor for some time. All medical tests clear. HTH
