had baby recently but dont want to hit the gym till i have had my 6 week check which will be 1st jan to be exact (!) but will prob have it b4 xmas.

anyway loosing weight is very new to me. Just wondering if any of the 'adios' type things would do anything before im able to excercise? I have 2 small ds's and the only time i will have to excercise will be in jan at gym so i can put them both in the creche.

any tips/advice?

IMHO with those adios type things the only pounds you lose are out of your purse! If they worked we'd all be on them.

Personally I would eat 3 sensible meals a day and snack on fruit. you've just had a baby and your body has endured alot recently - congratulations by the way!

I agree Furball - diet supplements absolutely don't work. It's a big con.

Weight Watchers core food plan does, if you stick to it, which is quite easy if you plan your shopping properly. It's just like Furball says about three square meals a day and fruit.

Avoid the patronising classes aimed at total idiots, and buy the books second hand on Ebay instead. Make sure you never get hungry while you are on it (takes a bit of organisation).

Read "French Women Don't Get Fat" to keep morale up - great healthy recipes and beauty advice in there, including about postnatal period, French-style.

give yourself a break! you have a lovely new baby...

there's only one thing you need to know about weight loss. and that's if you want to lose you need to burn more calories than you eat. no amount of fannying about with pills or other stuff changes that.

the good news is that if you're b-feeding you're bruning up loads of extra cals. so do what furball says - eat sensibly and enjoy your baby. if you;ve got the energy and the inclination you can walk lots - with baby - before you start at the gym - but honestly don't stress about it.

Yes indeed hatwoman, how right you are, but isn't it also nice to turn over a bit of a new dietary leaf with a new baby? I get where mad4 is coming from ...

Just cut out bread and white pasta, biscuits, sugar, etc. You'll see a difference v quickly.

I wouldn't do a lot at the gym really, unless there's some Pilates or something gentle like that. I would be tempted to leave it at least 12 weeks, actually. Your joints need time to recover. Round our way they also do organised pram walks for mums as an interim fitness measure - maybe you could get a group of some kind going?

Monkeytrousers, I am put in mind of the Lennie Henry sketch where he announces scientists have found the reason for obesity ... cake!! There's a lot to be said for getting rid of refined food in our diet.

i asked my osteopath today and she said there was no reason why couldnt go to the gym. im going to try get a session with personal trainer..

I would still be very careful. Glad you're seeing a personal trainer.

SpacePuppy · 05/12/2008 21:26

I would say if you were training right up to the end of your pregnancy there is no reason not to continue. The only thing is, if you are breastfeeding, your body will still produce relaxin which is the hormone that relaxes your tendons, be careful not to do to much weigh lifting. But there is nothing that can stop you from exercising except maybe the discomfort from being postnatal and the unpleasantness that comes with it. i.e. lochia.
