I have been to the gp numerous amountd of time for carpal tunnel syndrome and after reffering me tp physio which didn't work they are saying there is nothing they can do but it's getting me down it really hurts and i am finding grasping really hard.

I have it in both sides one alot worse than the other, my spling does naff all for it and im sick o taking so many pain killers everyday.

I KNOW people who have had other treatments for it, im not sure why i can't have anything sone maybe it was to do with a bad accident i had as a child when i shattered my wrist and arm bone?

Anyone have any ideas on how to approach my gp again about it?

Just some sympathy would be lovely right now.

Much sympathy. There is an operation (carpal tunnel release) that is often done, and also steroid injections too. I would go back to the GP and ask specifically why you can't have those treatments. You should be referred to Orthopedics rather than physio if it is true carpal tunnel, so press for that too.

I found physio did nothing too, but a GOOD chiropractor did wonders (it was expensive but worth every penny) this did not come as a recommendation from the doctor as my surgery poo poo different treatments other than physio, otherwise go back to the doc (can you see another one in the surgery for maybe a different take on it?)

You definitely have my sympathy.

My mum has had cortizone injections and then went on to have both wrists operated on (at different times)

Woohoo!

I went to the new dr today and he has put me in for Thursday (next week) to have 5 injections of steroids in my Carpal tunnel nerve, then if after 6 months it is still a problem will will discuss surgery.

He was really nice and explained everything and totaly sympathised with me, he laso said my old gp practice was crap for not getting it sorted becuase if cpt is severe and lasting a long time it can cause perminent damage to carpal tunnel nerve leaving the hand unusable.

Thats good news - I too had to see a number of GPs who were hopeless over CTS (tried to tell me it was water retention and gave me pills which made me sick), eventually I paid to see a consultant privately - about £100 who recommended surgery and put me on the NHS waiting list - didn't like doing it (or finding £100) but was desperate as in massive pain in both hands and had a 3mth old baby to look after. The surgery is relatively minor and it takes a few weeks to recover but for me it has cured the problem once and for all. I always thought CTS was a relatively minor condition until I got it then I realised how agonising it can be - good luck with the injections hope it gets better soon.

Can I just point out that this was the first symptom of thyroid disease for me? So it's always a good idea to have a thyroid test at the GP just to be on the safe side, as this is not uncommon.

Also btw my mum has just had the surgery and she is delighted with the results.
