Bitter taste in mouth - whats causing it? Could it be this bizarre theory I found whilst Googling?

Like the thread title said I have a really bitter taste in my mouth, mainly when eating but it lasts for a while afterwards too. Its been going on since the end of last week.

I Googled it (I know, not always a good idea) and one of the first pages I came across was this where people claim to have the same problem as a result of eating pine nuts.

Strangely enough I had pine nuts Thursday evening. I have them relatively often but this was a new bag and TBH they tasted a bit odd/different at the time.

Anyone else had this?

(NB. being a bit scared of dentists I'm hoping its not a dental problem thats causing the bitter taste so I may be guilty of clutching at straws here )

Pregnancy? New medication? New toothpaste?

NorbertDentressangle · 01/12/2008 19:28

No (very unlikely due to contraception, age etc), no (no meds) and no (same old toothpaste) mylittlemousie, I can't find any logical explanation like that.

bump for the daytime MNers (although the more I think about it the more I'm convinced by the pine nut theory)

Wow that is really interesting. I eat pine nuts a lot and also seem to be suffering from a nasty bitter taste a lot too. I thought it was just another pregnancy symptom. I couldn't see what caused it though?

EachPeachPearMum · 02/12/2008 13:55

could it just be the start of a cold?

NorbertDentressangle · 02/12/2008 14:09

Daffodilly -It is interesting isn't it? Did you take a look at that link? Its really funny as its full of posts that say "oooh I've had a bitter taste in my mouth and ate pine nuts x days ago".

EPPM -If it was the start of a cold I would've expected it to have happened by now as its been about 5 days. My colds normally start with a throat "feeling". Time will tell...

lol Ruby -I've certainly been snacking less between meals and in the evenings as the bitter taste seems to last for ages after eating so its not worth it.
