IBS Relief?

Zebraa · 01/12/2008 17:06

I suffer really bad bouts of IBS. Typical symptoms are period type pain, trapped wind, bloating and sometimes a pain up my bum type feeling.

Can anyone recommend any miracle cure because it's unbearable at the minute!

Oh sorry to here that hope you are alright now ....what is fibrous food ?
i think eating little and often does help alot and i drink pep tea to

giantkatestacks · 30/03/2009 20:17

like the list above really - any whole wheat products, the skins of veg, legumes, bananas, beans, nuts, seeds...but this is a pretty serious dietary change and could be the opposite of what you need...

Iworryalot · 30/03/2009 20:23

oh ok thanks , i guess you now know what you can and cant eat ... im still trying to find this out .
which im guessing can be a slow process ..

giantkatestacks · 30/03/2009 20:27

yes I think that the case for 'true' sufferers of ibs. I would maybe try a low residue (low fibre) diet for a week or so though to see if theres any change - its pretty similar to a gluten free anyway tho I am allowed small amounts of white flour products - so one portion a day or either pasta or a couple of slices of white bread - not both in a day though iyswim.

Cornsilk - so glad the aloe vera helped. It worked wonders for me.

giantkatestacks · 30/03/2009 20:35

littlefish - that sounds really interesting - what does it do - the aloe vera I mean (am trying to work out if it would help me)

Iworryalot · 30/03/2009 20:43

Thanks for advice giant, will look into it some more x

Littlefish · 30/03/2009 20:49

Giantkatestacks - I used to have almost daily pain and bloating and alternate constipation and diarrhoea (sp!). I started taking a dose of aloe vera gel morning and night (mixed with apple juice) and after 3 weeks, my symptoms had all but disappeared.

Tis wonderful stuff, and makes your hair and nails strong too!

The brand I take isn't cheap - it's about £18.00 a bottle, but a bottle lasts a month or so, so I think it's worth it to have my symptoms back under control.

If you google "forever living products", that's the brand I use.

Does it help with the loose Bm ? i get in morning plus bloating and wind ?

giantkatestacks · 30/03/2009 20:54

Thanks littlefish - I'll go and have a look.

Meglet · 30/03/2009 20:54

I saw an nhs dietician and she recommended a low residue diet too. I miss lots of fruit and veg, but whenever I lapse and have a salad my stomach is agony. I also drink mineral water as she said tap water can upset some stomachs [highly strung emoticon].

I really must try aloe vera after reading this thread.

Littlefish · 30/03/2009 20:57

I found it helpful with all the symptoms!

I changed jobs and have a lot less stress now. This means that I don't take it everyday any more, but if I'm feeling stressed, or know that I'm going to be eating rich food, I start taking it again.

Littlefish · 30/03/2009 20:59

The yellow bottle is the one I have

Iworryalot · 30/03/2009 20:59

ok thanks x

giantkatestacks · 30/03/2009 21:03

Am just worried that it will be fibrous and this is why it helps some people - if it is and I take it then I will be in real trouble. Will have a look at a label next time I'm in a healthfood shop.

Meglet - thats interesting about the tap water - why is that?

Meglet · 30/03/2009 21:09

The dietician said tap water in my area has a slighly higher level of cryptospidium (spelling) bugs. I know it was one of those ones that make lots of people ill occasionally. Its not a dangerous level, but can be enough to set some stomachs off.
