35 weeks pregnant, think I have worms, and is this what is wrong with DD1? And did I mention I think I have worms?

Help me!

Little tiny thread like worms, this is 'worms' isn't it? DD1 has had belly ache on and off all week, she is now curled up on the sofa asleep not eating, what do I do?

Feel all yuck.

you poor thing - if you google there are lots of ways of getting rid of worms without medication, involving wearing of big pants at all time and showering before bed etc etc. i don't think worms cause bellyache but if you can face it ask her to provide a sample and have a look.

good luck.

ohdeargodhelpme · 29/11/2008 09:36

Well, trying not to give TMI, but my own sample is errr, wriggling

I thought you were meant to get an itchy bum and stuff with worms? I am scratching now but only because I am thinking about it.

Not sure I'm brave enough to google.

Ok, I googled, rang GP surgery, it's closed and is giving the out of hours number, do I need to ring them or is it not an emergency? It feels like an emergency to me as I have worms coming out of my bum, but is a doctor going to think I'm time wasting at the out of hours?

phone nhs direct for some advice on it?

SoupDragon · 29/11/2008 10:10

Go to the chemist. You can get both Ovex and pripsen over the counter. My one concern would be whether you can take either whilst pregnant. I couldn't take either whilst bf-ing.

Pharmacist would know.

TheGoat · 29/11/2008 10:14

ok (not an expert but had worms when i came hom e from hospital with dd) i cut my nails super short. bathed morning and evening with particular attention to the 'area'. scrubbed hands regularily. it worked.

basically you swallow an egg it runs off to your insides and gets a frisky they crawl out your anus to lay eggs (itchy bit) you merrily get up and leave eggs on bedding etc and the cycle starts again. trick is to stop the cycle.

ohdeargodhelpme · 29/11/2008 10:14

I've looked on the NHS website, treatment includes a nice wet swob taken from around your bum, then sent off for tests, I don't need that, I can see them moving.

Yuck yuck yuck, am fairly grossed out here.

I might give them a ring.

I have seen worms appearing from my bee you em each time I have had worms (5 and counting)

As you are preggers I can't say what treatment you can have...but someone posted on here about smearing the area with Vaseline as the blighters get stuck and can't lay their eggs, which then can't be transferred.

I do feel for you, its a horrible sensation. But strangely compelling at the same time

mrsmaidamess · 29/11/2008 10:18

You can't take Ovex when preggers, I know that much xx

ohdeargodhelpme · 29/11/2008 10:39

I'm waiting for NHS Direct to ring back.

I'm not sure compelling is the word I'd use to describe it! Yuck, gross, and bloody horrible pretty much sums it up. Oh and embarressing.

And why do I have to answer questions about blue lips and breathing patterns, and then wait up to two hours for a phone call back to find out if I can ring out of hours or if it has to wait till Monday? I only need a simple yes or no.

Secret ... I have taken Ovex when pregnant several times with the help of a very naughty complicit pharmacist who said it had to be on my own head. He explained the drug just goes into the gut, not the bloodstream, and the reason it's not indicated in pregnancy is because like most medicines they couldn't be blardy arsed to test it.

I am not recommending you do this, because I am not a medic, but it worked for me and I would do it again rather than put up with worms.

i'm 14 weeks pregnant and have worms my two small children have them also i bought pripsen for them and was told by doctor and pharmacist that there is nothing they can do for me!! well i wont take no for an asnwer so i contacted pripsen and they said its fine to take worming powder after 3 months of pregnancy so hopefully they will dissappear, and for the record they DO give you gut-ache this is due to them constantly moving around your lower intestine which makes you feel like you need to poo all the time they also leave behind a slimey discharge with your excrements and they leave you feeling washed out and never the less dirty, hope this helps all pregnant women who are being told theres nothing for them x
