Oh yes...I had it once and it was more of a vague something isn't right feeling in the evening and then by 2am I was weeing blood and had to go to out of hours dr.

Can you nip to a tesco and get some Cystemme (sp)

missingtheaction · 27/11/2008 20:16

it will have. goes from 0 - agony in just a couple of hours

drink drink drink, water, cranberry juice if you can get it but very diluted. those cystapurin things can help a bit but won't cure it. drink more, warm. wee lots and lots and lots.

if you start getting an ache in your lower back then keep an eye on it, and on your temperature. can be kidney infection.

if it's so bad you need to see a doctor then take along a sample of wee. antibiotics can have a magic effect

cranberry juice?

sorry ... its sucks

BitOfFun · 27/11/2008 20:23

Dont know what to suggest really chickadee- strong painkillers? And the usual water, cranberry juice, pharmacy sachets, warmish bath with some salt in for you to pee in if it's like passing glass? Sympathies tho-anything to take your mind off it in the mean time?

downbutnotout · 27/11/2008 20:26

I get it at the drop of a hat (sex used to set it off, but now I can do it all on my own) and the first sign is a stinging sensation when I wee. Usually I can hold it off if I then drink lots of water and wee lots, but you could run out and get some Cystemme as well. If you start to get blood in your urine, go to GP.

CoolYourJets · 27/11/2008 20:26

Pain killers, loads of water, hot bottle, cymalon

The quicker you can get the cystitis stuff the better. It is awful sympathies.

BCNS · 27/11/2008 20:35

can't offer anything other than whats been said already.. but big sympathy!!

Oooh yes it can march on in fairly quickly. It's a nasty thing.

I'm a bit of a veteran of it and can tell at the slightest twinge if I'm getting it.

Everything said already is good advice - especially hot water bottle and lots to drink obviously.

I don't mess about anymore though. The only thing I find that knocks it on the head asap are AB'S and I get them fast before it gets a hold. Can you get to the docs first thing? They'll want a sample of course.

Hope it goes soon Lewis. It's so horrible

Ruby2shoes · 28/11/2008 14:40

it sure can. Drink little and often - water or cranberry which cleanses the bladder and try Potassuim Citrate Mixture BP which you mix with water from any chemist, it tastes vile but works every time so I always have a bottle just in case.
GP nearly had a fit when I finaly mangaged to drag myself in last time i had it - the sample i gave her looked like neat blackcurrant juice - terrible pains in lower back and down my legs had been on the loo all night screaming in agony. Had to talk her out sending me to hospital as i had no back up care for my daughter so she packed me off with a very long prescription.

Wouldnt wish it on anyone!

boudoiricca · 28/11/2008 14:50

Probably a bit late for you LF, but another veteran here and I agree with TsarChasm. The only thing I know that really works is ABs (pref cipro or tavaloxx) much as I usually dislike taking them. And it really stops it right like that too. If you can get to the Drs and get a script (preferably a repeat prescription to save you hassle in future) then do it.

Otherwise I agree with above, but I try to only wee once every 30 mins / an hour or so, to make sure there's lots of liquid.

Ibuprofen also good.

Sorry, it is so miserable...

lumpsdumps · 28/11/2008 14:51

Definitely agree with the comment on kidney infections, I have just got over a double kidney infection which required 2 lots of antibiotics, mine just started without warning as it always does with me. My doctors just want to bury their heads in the sand though and not send me for tests even though I have had 2 major kidney infections in 5 months. You have my sympathies though!

LynetteScavo · 28/11/2008 18:57

Oh blimey!

I too had a kidney infection without warning. I was 23 PG, adn by the time I actually got a Dr. to take any notice I was prtty close to loosing my baby adn needed IV antibiotics and a stay in hospital.

Be careful!
