Non-hormonal contraceptives?

The pill turns me into a raging scary plate-throwing monster and I suspect that the implant or injection would do the same thing.

After 3 split condoms in 6 months, resulting in taking the morning after pill with associated scary hormonal side effects, I need an additional layer of protection.

Can anyone suggest anything?

IUD? I have one and love it, but doesn't suit everyone.
(Not mirena, as that is hormonal, too)

Go to your local family planning clinic and talk to them about it. Much more help than most gps imo (and more experienced at fitting IUDs, too.)

old-stylee coil (not Mirena)

some PCTs are still providing diaphragms

Condoms shouldn't split that often - are you using top-of-the-range ones? Not dodgy ones from the back of a pub?! And are you using correct size/putting them on correctly? (not leaving air in the end?)

Okay I'm about to sound thick but size?

We use Durex extra-safe, which is ironic really and are putting them on correctly. Got very paranoid about that after the first one split.

We're very active so 3 in the last 6 months is not exactly a bad rate - possibly once in a hundred times but it does rather feck up the rest of the month.

You are having sex more than once a day?

Different Durex ranges have different shapes and sizes - some are more comfortable than others depending on schong dimensions . You need to try a few really to see what fits best.

Having said that if you are having sex more than once a day and you really need contraception (can't he have a vasectomy?!) then the hormonal options are best - have you tried a few different types?

Alternatively ask about the coils that are available at your local FPC

We have sex at least 2 if not 4 times a day...when he's here (he's military so it's a bit of a feast/famine situation).

Thanks for the advice on the condom ranges. Never really considered that before.

Vasectomy is out of the question.

I've been on practically every combined pill going and 3 brands of POP over the last 8 years. I absolutely cannot handle any more attempts even though it would make life so much easier.

Another vote for the coil - I can't use hormonal contraceptives either and I found the non-Mirena coil was my best alternative.
