Any PCOS sufferers?

Has anyone with PCOS or anyone who knows anyone with PCOS had positive results from homeopathy?

I was on a diabetes pill (can't remember the name)a while back which wasn't much use, it made me tired and as soon as i came off it i put weight back on (not that it caused me to lose a lot in the first place).

I have read that homeopathic remedies can be good but because they are so expensive i was just wondering if it was worth a try?

I have read that cinnamon(spl) is good so i will be trying that.

I find it tres amusing that all these celebs apparently have it but they show no signs - they have at least 1 child are thin and show no signs of having a beard and chest hair.

I have been lasered and ILPd to oblivion but still look like a fat beardy lump.

The contraceptive pill abated the hair but increased the weight and we're trying to get pregnant again (which was ridiculously easy last time - first go!)

Any help or advise would be grand

Hi
Try asking on the conception threads re PCOS... Lots of people have tried a lot of stuff there....

Personally i think religous diet and exercise is the key, I have PCOS and took Metformin (is that what you meant) with good diet and exercise and it worked but the drug is horrible re side effects at the start.
It made me ovulate regularly, im now 25wks preg.

Always good to hear about alternatives.
GOod luck

jakesmum,

www.verity-pcos.org.uk is Verity's website which is a UK charity for women with PCOS. This has a mine of useful information on it.

PCOS cannot be cured as the cystic follicles associated with the condition always return.

Would not bother using homeopathic remedies for PCOS - they will have no effect whatsoever. All they will do is lighten your wallet!!.

It is important that you try to remain within the correct weight range for your height as excess pounds can exacerbate symptoms.

PCOS does affect ovulation and can cause problems with ttc - if you have been previously diagnosed with PCOS it is better to seek medical help from a gynae at a subfertility unit (not your GP!) sooner rather than later. Also, generally speaking, fertility does decline with age.

Thanks.

I know about not being over weight but it is also very difficult for us to shift weight so....

I do have regular periods (sorry if TMI) but how do i know if i'm ovulating?

Wouldn't my GP have to refer to a sub fertility unit?

I have polycystic ovaries, but not too badly, I saw a herbalist who was also a dietician. It was brilliant. My periods became very regular, don't really think the hair thing calmed down much though. I have no idea the state of my ovaries either.
iirc one of the really key things she told me to do re diet was eat lots and lots of fibre as this helps to form the sex hormone bonding globin (if memory serves me correctly) which apparently we're short of
