Toothache ...... ouch!

Hiya,
I've had toothache since late last night (was kept awake with it), and i still really hurts now.

I can't get to a dentist utill Monday (hoping they just remove the stupid tooth tbh), and it is not what I would consider an emergency, apart from that pain anyway!

I've been taking so many painkillers to try to calm it down, I've had the dreaded dihorreah (sp?) tonight.

So, what is best for toothache? I've taken Anadin Extra this afternoon and tonight, along with paracetamol this morning, and some nurofen.

Help please..... it hurts

I also need to find a dentist on Monday, as I haven't seen one for many years due to a bad expereance (sp?)!

isn't clove oil meant to help?

Warm flannel on cheek?

jofeb04 · 21/11/2008 21:05

Haven't heard about Clove oil (not sure where I could get it from either tbh).

Warm flannel sounds like a good idea.

I am so scared of dentists, but I really need to be seen.

I have had hellish tooth ache before and this I swear by

get some whisky (I found a good single malt best (seriously)) take a small mouthfull and swirl it about your mouth - hold it there as long as you can - warning it will start to burn really badly - but hold it till you really cant hold it any more - then spit - or swallow your choice! you might have to repeat this twice but I promise you that it will totally numb your sore bit!! it is simply amazing

I hate the taste of whisky really hate it but when I was pregnant with DD I had sever toothache that I couldnt get to settle and had to wait over the weekend. but this would numb it. (I used the contents of a miniture bottle over a weekend - so you don't need that much!)

I believe any other spirit works but not to the same effect

I am a dentist
DO NOT PUT A WARM FLANNEL ON CHEEK as any infection will drain towards heat source.

Hold a mouthful of warm/ hot water in your mouth and swhish around while massaging your face on the affected area.

This will help.

squidgy i am going to recommend your technique to my patients

jasper · 21/11/2008 22:38

if by the remotest chance you are in greater glasgow or clyde health board CAT me and I will sort it out tomorrow

jofeb04 · 23/11/2008 16:42

Apologies for not responding until now (went to bed where I stayed until yesterday pm).

The tooth was removed, as it was so badly chipped there wasn't alot they could do.

So now it's hurting because of that

Jasper, if your online, can you let me know if it is safe for me to have my tounge pierced whilst the tooth wound is healing? Will obviously be keeping piercing clean etc.

Thanks

(Booked in to have it done Tuesday)

jofeb04 I would not recommend tongue piercing AT ALL. Apart from (low) risk of complications with the actual piercing wound , long term you can break your teeth on the stud. I have seen this often.

With a healing socket in your mouth there IS an increased risk of wound complications.
Especially if you are a smoker, even if you stop smoking for a few days.

LOL Jasper - (sorry forgot about this thread ) yes getting Glasweigians to put whisky in their mouths wouldn't be hard!! (I'm originally from that area!)

Seriously it is such an effective way to numb the area!!
