Sinus pain in bed - anyone have any experience?

Hi all,

I am asking on behalf of my Mam who, since going through the menopause has suffered sinus pain on and off (probably for the last 3-4 years). This seems to occur in bed and is worse when lying down. At first she thought it was just due to changes in hormones etc. and was given a steroid spray from the doctor which relieved symptoms immediately - but she obviously doesn't want to use this long-term.

She is prone to headaches and migraines any way, so perhaps this is linked? She isn't asthmatic or allergic - but I'm thinking it could be a dust allergy as it is confined to bed-times (she does wash pillows, hoover bed regularly, but I'm not sure if this is enough to kill dustmites; I have suggested freezing the pillows)? Or, another possibility is nasal polyps? Does any one have any experience of this type of thing, or any general advice?

TIA

I have very bad catarrh and sometimes it give me bad sinus headaches too. Just wanted to say that I also use a steroid spray and my GP told me that I could be using it very long-term with no problems. Maybe she should speak to her GP to have her mind put at rest about this.

The other thing that helps me is making sure I don't sleep flat. Propping my head up on a few pillows always helps.

I have just started using a sinurinse, and after years of suffering terribly with sinsitus, and headaches/migraines.
In a nutshell you flush your sinuses out with a saline solution, and it instantly clears it all.Made a huge difference, better than any medication I have had from GPs.

You can buy anti allergen pillows and divets etc. Maybe this would help.

Thanks everyone.

Squeaver - what is the name of the steroid spray you use? I think my Mam used fluco-something...

Wisp - sounds pleasant ! How often to you rinse?

It's Nasonex. I think I had the Fluco one before too, but doc changed me to this one - it's newer. I really, really notice the difference if I don't use it for a few days.

BV I rinse every morning, but twice a day if I have "pressure" IYKWIM.
Clears my sinuses out completely for the whole day, and its wonderful relief.
