following on from my prev thread in LP, i've rung the dr's today, got an apt for next thurs but also need to try & book something sooner in the open clinic on monday.

anyhow I have a few questions -

which ones am I likely to be put on? (I don't want to be addicted and only want it for a few months no more)

will I put weight on with them

how soon will the hopelessness fade?

can I still drink with them (only cos it's xmas not typically iycwim)

they won't turn me into a zombie will they?

thanks. (oh n can I say I deffo don't want prozac?)

spandex, don't get befuddled about prozac, it's only cos it's the most 'known' drug for depression, that you feel funny about it.

I am on it and it's saved my life. I was another one once for 2 yrs and I lost those 2 yrs to it, feeling suicidal. Yet becuase this was what i was put on, and my gp was rubbish, and it was the early 90's, i stayed on it. Was told to geton with my life, by the gp etc...

Another gp took me off it, and onto prozac. It's been hit and miss, with me struggling to accept being on it long term. I came off it a few times over about 4 yrs, and again, life was shite, despite counselling etc...

I finally had to accept i needed it, to stop me feeling like there was no point.

So please give it a try.

I take Dosulepin which is a tricyclic. It's fab. I get absolutely no side effects, I can drink as much as I like (and that can be quite a lot . The one thing I do get is a really good, restful night's sleep. I'm also really bad if I don't get enough sleep. They seem to really suit me - I can't rate them enough.

Don't be put off taking ad's because of what people with think. I think you'd be surprised how many people actually take them or have taken them. Depression is incredibly common, it's just that there's such a stigma that people don't like to talk about it.

I don't know your story, but I'd say you are better off taking them and keeping yourself well so that you can deal with what is going on, rather than continuing to struggle on.

surfer mum how long did your s start to work ive been on mirtazapine for nearly 3 weeks not much change how much longer

Surfermum · 27/11/2008 19:49

It took about 3 weeks to start to feel a difference, but it was very subtle. It's not an overnight cure, more a gradual improvement.

stressedsanta · 27/11/2008 20:11

thankyou thats given me hope to stick with them

Surfermum · 27/11/2008 20:32

I can remember feeling very stuck, like I was never going to feel myself again. What helped was each week I'd look back on how I'd been a couple of weeks before, and I would notice a difference.

The first time I was ill I had 3 months off work, then worked part-time for 3 months. It took me that long to get back to "normal".
