Gallstone pain after gallbladder removal??

Hi. Has anyone experienced this? My DP had terrible gallstone attacks and had gallbladder removed 2 years ago. About a month after that had another "attack" and it was discovered that there were still some stones in the bile duct which were passing through.
Now today has just had another bout of gallbladder pain, not as severe, but is now really terrified of it somehow happening all over again. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Can stones form in the bile duct even when you have no gallbladder? I'm totally befuddled by the info online. Or maybe it's just a warning to cut back on fat intake again.
Any advice gratefully received as now have a very and anxious DP. Thought that horrible time was behind us but it feels like the clock's been turned back two years.

It can be common to have pain after the removal of a gallbladder, look at Google and you will hear of this. It's a spasm of the muscles. He should go and see his GP though for a qualified diagnosis but the chances of it being stones are minimal.

Yes it is called post cholesystemectemy syndrome. I had it, it is a bummer but it does go away but the GP gave me muscle-relaxants and very strong pain killers.
I think it is caused by the muscles in the area going into the spasm as it tries to re-align itself or something.

Thanks, both! Carmenere, did your pain suddenly return after such a long time, too? 2 years seems ages ago for muscle pain to now occur.
Also, how long before it went away? Did you get lots of attacks and were any as severe as the original gallstone pain? Sorry to ask so many questions but desperate to reassure DP! Thanks.

Yes they came on suddenly, and yes I have had them up to two years after the op but he should definitely go to the gp for the pain-relief and muscle-relaxants and to get checked out.

Will organise visit to GP, def, but relieved to get some calming advice and know that it isn't unheard of. [breathes again] Thanks.

I have had my gal bladder removed and hav had pain since four days after my op, every single day, the pain is worse than before a got it out, it doesn't matter what i eat and if i don't eat it's still sore every day so to say just get pain killers it's not enough. you can't be on pain killers for the rest of your days, it's alot of crap the pain needs to be investigated more there is a special scan they can do i'm waiting on that.
