i am not sure, i know that there is medication for high BP. has she spoken to her MW/ GP , if it is that bad she is dizzy and falling over, she might need some help.

She should make sure she is well hydrated. Eat salt. (not on its own obv). Check she's not anaemic.

Lots of fluid, iron, and salt might help. Babies are selfish and they get first dibs during pregnancy.

I have fairly low blood pressure naturally. And these are the things that will help to raise it. However, I never really had an problems when I was pregnant.

If she is veggie, the iron is a bit tricker but she could probably get veggie iron tables from the GP if it's a problem.

Would recommend a trip to GP (not midwife) for advice.

I have low bp and suffered with this when pg.

It got better around the 6 month mark.

hazeyjane · 17/11/2008 19:26

I had low bp when i was pregnant with dd2, and had to be admitted to hospital when i fainted at an antenatal appointment.

Spatone is a great iron supplement, and doesn't make you constipated, otherwise the advice is usually to sit down as soon as you feel woozy, lots of fluids and avoid hot baths.

I had it right up to and during labour, which meant I kept passing out throughout labour! I was induced and had an epidural, and I can't remember but one of these didn't help re the low blood pressure situation (sorry, can't be clearer, as you can imagine labour was a bit of a blur!)

Low bp is very common in the 2nd trimester of pregnancy.

Make sure she is well hydrated, when going from sitting/lying position to standing do it slowly.

She needs to get her hb checked for anaemia. Make sure she mentions this to her gp or midwife.

I have low blood pressure and it was worse whist pregnant. It isn't medically treated in the UK,unlike Europe, and I was given the same advice as has already been posted,re salt, drinking enough & not getting up too quickly.
