do you think I am insane, cos that was his response

prob is that since having had the snip (6yrs ago), he keeps waking in the night to go to the toilet, and it is not stopping or improving (as we hoped), but instead getting worse (like pregnancy really), so I told him to get it reversed to make him better, and I will have more babies.

The getting up in the night is probably due to his prostate getting bigger (it does naturally over time ), so he should mention it to the GP as there are things that can be done about it. Nothing to do with the snip I'm afraid...

artichokes · 17/11/2008 08:49

Agree that the weeing will not be effected by a vasectomy reversal. The GP should be able to help but not with that operation.

If you want more babies then go for it, but it seems odd to say that although the main reason for the reveral is totally un-baby related you will nevertheless have more babies.

Are you totally sure you want more babies? .

expatinscotland · 17/11/2008 08:51

he needs his prostate checked, not a vasectomy reversal (unless you want more babies).

the prostate can enlarge with age and press on the neck of the bladder, making the man feel he needs the toilet more often and even interfering with continence.

an enlarged prostate should always be checked, too, to make sure the reason it is enlarged is benign (it usually is).

psychomum5 · 17/11/2008 09:07

aha, you all seem to be thinking what I was thinking anyway!!

I did think prostate, but seeing as he said it has been going on since the snip (why on earth he didn;t say anything to me I will never know.....I would have got him checked sooner), I just said, oh, get it reversed then......and I will have more babies, hence his response.

I just wondered how many others would think me insane tho.....

I don;t really want more babies (I don;t think), but oh, that scrummy smell and the bum stretch thingy that they do, and oh, oh, just a baaaaaaaaaaabaay.....

believe me, the vas deferens isn't near his bladder.

his prostate is closer.

men get theirs as they get older, and usually it's via their prostate .

he'll sooo enjoy getting his prostate checked, too .

psychomum5 · 17/11/2008 10:09

well, he came back after asking about his ear (yes, his ear apparently is dodgy too), and not able to walk as they did something to his head!

he asked about his weeing, and they said that they are only allowed to talk about one problem per appointment, so needs to some back next week. they have asked him to provide a wee sample in the meantime tho, to rule anything out on that score, so they can look straight into anything else if it is clear.

he did not mention prostate, nor did I, as I DO know how they check and I am not warning him.......or is that mean

OP posts:
psychomum5 · 17/11/2008 10:10

actually tho, if it is his prostate, what would they do??

just so I know and can be forewarned.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 17/11/2008 10:40

well, they can give you medication for enlarged prostates once non-benign causes are worked out, or drugs for over-active bladder.

but they do need to figure things out, like UTI, enlarged prostate.

psychomum5 · 17/11/2008 10:48

ah, so not neccessarily an operation then if they do think it is that...???

I am purposly not googling as I think I might read scary stuff.....so thankyou expat

"they are only allowed to talk about one problem per appointment"

WTF???

psychomum5 · 17/11/2008 10:53

I know ponders.......I thought that too!

expatinscotland · 17/11/2008 11:35

no, not necessarily an op. plenty of men have enlarged prostate/over-active bladder issues. sometimes an enlarged prostate can press on the neck of the bladder, and there is an op for this, but it has to be pretty bad/incontinence sort of thing for that.
