Does this mean I can't go to work???

I've never had nits before.

Someone take pity on me and tell me what to do

Normally you have to stay off until you have treated the hair, so if you slap all the lotion on in the morning the kids could go back to school and wash it off in the evening.

No - wet comb with conditioner tonight.....then every night for the next week & every other night for the next fortnight

Good luck

We don't own a comb

How hard is it to find a 24hr pharmacy???
I thought there were some that had to keep open on rotation?

DD1 came back from nursery with nits a few weeks ago.

I kept her at home for the day(because I didn't like the idea of knowingly sending her into nursery wit them). I took the day off work (I work with children and didn't want to spread them further). I let nursery/work colleagues/her & my friends know.

We bought treatment from chemist (can't remember what it was called but some kind of oily stuff that we all had to keep on over night). Sent her in next day and repeated treatment 7 days later. It did the trick. We have been using tea tree shampoo to keep them at bay BUT... she's now got them again- afetr going back to nursery.

Argh.

most schools no longer operate an exclusion policy for nits. i have never heard of kids being kept off for nits before and treatment is usually effective - whether you wet comb or blast it with chemicals/tea tree/whatever - for a time, the trouble being that the blighters can come back so easily. but yes your kids can go to school and you can go to work. best thing i have found is the nitty gritty nit comb (costs a tenner from the chemist but well worth it) which was devised by mothers and has a spiral pattern/groove to each comb shaft that really peels the nits off the hair. worth a try! use with conditioner in the normal wet comb way (many websites advise on this if you're stuck). good luck and don't despair.

No-one will know at work! Chn put their heads together so share them, but you'll be okay!

SlartyBartFast · 16/11/2008 22:36

and breathe.
it is NOT serious.
just get a comb/conditioner tomorrow.

SlartyBartFast · 16/11/2008 22:37

alternatively you could always shave your heads and chant unclean

Thank you all.

I called the walk in center and asked for details of a 24hr chemist.
Whizzed out and bought anti lice gunk and a comb...Woke DD up and covered her hair in it and sent her back to sleep.

DH and I picked through our hair but couldn't see anything.

In the morning I washed the gunk out and combed through her hair - I pulled out about 30 dead lice bodies....ewwwww!

She has sworn me to silence as she couldn't bear her friends knowing - Well where did she think she got them from????
