another chicken pox query

dd1 (3y) has been a bit off colour for the past week, last night when getting her ready for her bath noticed that she had a few spots which looked suspiciously like chicken pox but had started to crust over.
Today I've only counted about 8 spots in total, one of which looks new.

On Wed she got herself dressed and ready for bed so didn't see her body at all.

How long do chicken pox spots take from first appearing to crusting over?
Why did I not notice that my child was ill, although from the way she has been acting today and yesterday, you would not think there was anything wrong!
Will she be ok to go to nursery on monday, if all the spots have crusted over?
Feel like I should know these answers - am paediatric/neonatal nurse

c/p usually has a temp/fever. Each wave of Fever usually produces more spots. My DS1 was coverd and suffered badly (3 weeks). But I have heard of a baby only having 1 spot. Ususally c/p is congtagious for longer than you seem to have said, I sent my son back to school when the last few scabs where falling off. She could have a mild case and then get it again later maybe?

And your 3 year old dresses itself....well done you.

You wouldn't say that if you saw what she put's on!

As I knew we didn't have to go out yesterday, I didn't change her orange t-shirt and pink tracksuit bottoms. That and PJ's are the only things she does manage to put on normally.

I would phone the nursery and ask what their policy is as it seems to differ from area to area, ours were not allowed back until all the spots were dry and mainly cleared, some don't allow them back unil the spots have gone.

Hope your little one is feeling better soon

thanks,
have finally managed to get through to nursery and as long as the spots have all crusted over and there are no new spots, then she will be fine to go in. I don't have to wait for scabs to appear.
just waiting now for dd2 to show signs of cp!
