Just a whingy whine!! The ulcers on my last crop of chilblains are only just healing up. Someone asked me today how they were and I said they were loads better. so a few hours later and I notice that my big toe 9unaffected last time) is getting sore to walk on and now it is really really itchy and I've got new chilblains now. fgs. they are stupid and annoying and they should just go away.

Oh, blee! You are having a hard time of it lately. I don't know much about chilblains - is there no way to prevent them?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/11/2008 22:33

I could move to somewhere warm?
I've got medication that should help (given it last week) but it makes me too tired to function. I'll try again in two weeks when this hectic part of life passes (Christmas fair and stuff). Next year I'm hoping to persuade school to have it in summer

Thank you for the sympathy

Stupid question, but I'm assuming that thermals and those hand-heater things don't help? I don't know what causes them.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/11/2008 14:25

thermals are supposed to help I find that artificial heat makes it worse. Too many extra socks make it worse cos they cut off the circulation. I think its when extremities can't cope with being cold and damp and then rewarming too fast but even though I take a lot of care over it I seem to be susceptible. When life gets a bit less hectic I'm going to pay for a trip to a chiropodist to get some proper advice. (so if in a couple of weeks you see a lady shuffling to school in sheepskin slippers or something that'll be me )

hi,this might sound a bit weird, but i am desperate with my chilblains...so tried a desparate remedy last night...slice up a clove of garlic and rub into poorly toes; i know, bizarre but this morning they felt almost normal again..needs an understanding partner tho'...

Chilblain sufferer here too. It's a circulation issue so there may be herbs that help? Had meant to check myself before now but I don't seem to have them this year. So far!

dinamum · 22/12/2009 11:30

This wont help for this year but really did help my OH. He used to have terrible chilblains and drove me to distraction!

He was told by his Dr to put on Deep heat cream onto his toes once a day from about October and he has never had a chilblan since. The deep heat cream makes blood go to the area so no chilblains. I don't think it works though if you have already got them but it does prevent them for next year maybe

Can anyone tell me how you know you've got chilblains??

DD(8) has been complaining of intensely itchy toes on one foot for a few weeks, I haven't been able to see anything there but they do look a bit red (tho thought that might be from her constant scratching). Yesterday she pointed out that there's one tiny little patch of skin that is particularly red and looks a bit sort of wrinkly.

Could that be a chilblain? Not sure she'll let me put garlic on it......
