Anyone tried CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY for older children?

My DS is 6.5, and I am wondering whether cranial osteopathy might help him. He is very bright, extraordinarily musical - and very, very difficult. He is prone to explosive and apparently unprovoked outbursts of rage; he hates having to stop doing whatever it is that he's obsessed with; and being with him is like walking on the proverbial eggshells (he's also capable of being absolutely delightful - you just never know what will set him off!!)

He is Mr Perfect at school.

He was born by forceps after a very long and horrible labour and two failed attempts with a ventouse. As a baby, he suffered from terrible reflux; he also used to wake up at night screaming but apparently unable to recognise anyone. The last of these episodes was when he was four.

We did take him to a couple of sessions with a cranial osteopath when he was born, on the recommendation of the midwife. I don't know whether or not it made a difference to him; personally, I am keen on the idea of cranial osteopathy, but DH thinks it's a load of nonsense and that we would be throwing money away for nothing.

So what I'd like to know is whether anyone has tried it with this kind of age child - and, if so, whether they thought it was worthwhile.

I would be so grateful for any advice!

Bumping unanswered threads

I've found it worth while for DS1 - it cleared his ears brilliantly when they were blocked after a cold when he was 7.

He too was very, very difficult, and the osteopath always seemed to help - especially if he was going through a growing spurt.

Worth the money IMO.

I had it as an 11 year old, but for a more specific reason, migraines. which it worked wonders for.

it sounds like he may just be very spirited, would recommend reading "raising your spirited child"
his night wakings as a small child sound like night terrors, which are very common and nothing to worry about

Thanks for the bump Mum2, and for the advice, Lynette and thisis.

Lynette - I shall be citing your comment to my disbelieving DH!!

Thisis - I am familiar with the spirited child book. I quite often think he's just a badly behaved child, but spirited is a far more positive way to look at it!!

Dottoressa - tell your DH my DH was an unbeliever, untill he actually saw the results - then he quite happily would take time off work to take DS.

Ooh! Now that is interesting. I shall certainly tell him that...

I realise this thread is a little out of date now but I have an 8 year old who cannot fall asleep at night and is now at the stage where it is affecting his concentration at school. We have tried all sorts and for a few days each week, he is asleep at a reasonable hour but most of the time it is 11ish.

More recently he has started fidgeting with his head and shoulders, saying they don't feel right, which has got me on the train of thought of cranial osteopathy.

Any thoughts anyone???
