The Nitty Gritty comb is fantastic and worth every penny (but am annoyed now that I could have got it on prescription!). The literature says it gets out the eggs as well as the lice, but what I like about it too is that it's soft on the head.

I only use lotions on dsd when she's is particularly badly infested (I'm talking hundreds) and when I can do two treatments a week apart - which is only the school holidays as she doesn't live with us. At other times I just use loads of conditioner and wet combing. You can get cheap conditioner in Asda for about 30p.

I was a bit sceptical about the Nitty Gritty comb, but was amazed what I got out of my hair and dd's hair. I thought we were both clear and had found nothing with the normal comb. Can thoroughly recommend it.

Dr Johnsons headlice shampoo and conditioner is the best. It is £1.50 per bottle, natural and it does kill them. That's all I use now and you get a comb as well. Savers sell them.

can't bribe dd with chocolate or food I'm afraid Ah well I cross the bridge when I get there. Might have to get dh to do my hair first with her help and then we'll see... still hoping I won't find any

even if it does kill the lice, it won't penetrate the eggs, so when they hatch you have a new batch of lice. You just have to comb, comb, comb, every three days for two weeks. That way you catch any live lice after they've hatched and before they get a chance to lay eggs themselves.

I second the nittygeritty comb, worth every penny.

re nittygritty... do you just use the comb or also the solutions they offer?

MrsBD I bought the solution but dd2 couldn't bear the smell (but then she is funny with smells). Tissy, if you do the electronic comb every day it has the same effect - you catch them before they're grown up enough to lay their own eggs.

dh managed to check dd's hair thoroughly this morning and combed it with a double row lice comb and some baby oil ... no sightings so far... had him check me too as I'm a paranoid itcher

I just found another use for my lice comb... dd had baby oil in her hair from this morning so I could get the tangles out. At nursery she then had lots of fun in the sand pit... you can imagine what her hair looked like! Quick go over with the lice comb and the sand is gone!
