Have you had your mercury (silver amalgam) fillings replaced?

If so...

1 Why did you have it done?
2 Has it improved since?
3 Did it cost a bloody fortune?

I looked into it before getting pregnant with DD1. Was advised against it as apparently it's likely that more mercury would be released during the procedure than if left alone. Was advised to just get fillings replaced as they become damaged or worn.
Amd yes, it was going to cost a bloody fortune!

why would you do this?

I do get mine replaced with white as they become damaged but only for cosmetic purposes

otterchocdog · 11/11/2008 11:43

I had it done.

  1. For cosmetic reasons, and I because I used to worry about the mercury.
  1. Yes, looks much better, and I don't worry about the mercury any more.
  1. Not really - depends how many fillings. I didn't have masses. I think they were about £70-100 each

Yes slowly as am BF ing, I am on dentplan and its covered. NHS charge approx 90 quid per tooth. But even white fillings are not totally safe and dont last as long.

Because it has just been suggested to me that the mercury could be the cause of migraines (which I am bloody fed up with).

According to the peahead, here

So, why did you have them removed, beeper?

I'm having mine done as and when my mercury fillings wear out.

It looks better.
I don't like the idea of mercury
Can't remember how much - about £200 for the first 3 I think.

squeaver · 11/11/2008 16:18

Lurking because I have one and really want to have it replaced. God knows why I had it done in the first place.

AtheneNoctua · 11/11/2008 16:33

One?! I have 10 (I think haven't actual gone to the loo to look in the mirror). And one of them is only about a year or so old. How dumb am I???
