I am worried about my swollen stomach. Please come and tell me what you think :(

I look about 4 months pregnant and it feels tight and uncomfortable. It's been like this for about 2 weeks I think. I'm not due my period ATM.

I'm worried as this is exactly how I felt when I had my ovarian cyst (it WAS a massive cyst though). In fact it wasn't actually cyst it was a borderline tumour thing, which means a tumour but not like cancer (I think...this is how they explained it to me).

Anyway I could really do without getting another one on my one remaining and very precious ovary and losing that too

DH thinks I should go to the docs. I think the doc may just laugh and tell me I've eaten too many pies or something. Especially as I've only been feeling like this for 2 weeks.

Or IF the doc takes me seriously and refers me, I will have to wait a month or two for a scan and I will worry myself sick in that time. I really would be worried

the consultant told me my chances of getting another one of these cyst/tumours was the same as a person who has never had one before. SO it is hghly unlikely it is another one, right?

Is there anytrhing else it could be, honestly what do you think?

I'm telling myself that I only think its a cyst because thats the only experience I have of having a swollen stomach (apart from being PG), but its much more likely to be something more common - if so what??? ARGH

erm, well could you be pregnant?

I would see a GP tbh.

morningpaper · 10/11/2008 20:35

go the GP

MrsHappy · 10/11/2008 20:35

But even if it is a cyst that does not necessarily mean losing an ovary.

Best to see a GP sooner rather than later as this may give them more treatment options. And they will not laugh at you. With your history you need to be careful.

Ivvvvyygootscaaared444 · 10/11/2008 20:36

get yourself to the gp asap, please. This needs to be checked pronto.

Do you have any other symtoms?

tengreenbottles · 10/11/2008 20:37

This must be awful for you worrying about having another cyst, but there could be lots of other reasons ;

  1. you arnt constipated are you ?
  2. you definately arnt pregnant?
  3. could you have developed an intolrence to any food ,try cutting out the usual suspects like wheat
But most of important of all get yourself to the GP post haste ,they arent going to laugh at someone with your past medical history presenting with your symptoms . Hope you get it sorted soon

DEfo not preggers - I had a normal period that finished a week ago. ALthough it was 8 days late, which is worrying because my periods are v regular normally and last time I had a cyst my period came very late

Not constipated.

No other symptoms at all. Just feel swollen, full and uncomfortable. No pain or anything.

I know another cyst doesn't mean I will definately lose an ovary - I hope not anyway. That it my biggest fear though
I am a pessimist at the best of times

Oh bollocks, looks like a trip to docs tomorrow.

IS there anything else it could be - does water retention feel like this? Or anything else?

You need to go to your gp tomorrow, pepper.

Water retention does not feel like that. Have you been going to the loo to pass urine ok?

Keeping my fingers crossed everything will be ok.

PeppermintPatty · 10/11/2008 21:09

THanks everyone

Yes I've being weeing ok too. Everything is absolutely normal apart from my swollen stomach.

Can scar tissue make your stomach swollen - if it's irritated or something? I'm sure there's another explanation somewhere..... I'm not googling it - that's always a fatal mistake

Luckily I'm not in work tomorrow so I will ring for a docs appointment 1st thing.

Sorry to hear you've got this. How long ago was your cyst removed? If it was fairly recently, it would be unlikely/almost impossible to grow back quickly, according to the gynae I see. If it was a dermoid, they grow incredibly slowly in any case.

Hope everything will be ok and that your GP can put your mind at rest

PeppermintPatty · 11/11/2008 14:44

Subrosa - it was 4 years ago. It's not a case of it growing back as the whole ovary it was on was removed. It's more a case of a new one growing on the other ovary. Which is unlikely I think (I hope!)
Mine grew very quickly - it was the size of a melon by the time it removed
I'm going to the docs later this afternoon so I'll see what they say

Pepper, what did the doctor say?

PeppermintPatty · 12/11/2008 09:45

The doctor said he couldn't really feel anything abnormal in my stomach.
But he couldn't really think what else would cause my symptoms and given my history he's refering me for an ultrasound at the women's hospital. So i'll just have to wait and see....

Twas embarrassing as doctor was soooo young, he looked about 21 (though he obviously older then this). Felt like I was discussing my periods/gynae probs with a teenager.

I must be getting old

And thanks for asking cheshirekitty
