vaginal prolapse - help!

ok, so dd3 is 6 months old. when i went to the loo today i noticed a bulge coming out of my vagina - like a soft squidgy snooker ball, maybe a bit smaller. i can push it up and back in with my finger [sorry tmi] but it soon comes back down again

i feel equally sick and scared. please, anyone have advice/experience. obviously i will be going to the gp as soon as i can get there without ds1 and 2.

bump

have looked at a few older threads and notice that it might be bladder related or rectal. eeek. also saw on one thread that grade 1 is the 'best' and grade 4 is when something 'hangs out'. just checked again and mine is currently 'up', probably because I'm sitting here doing my pelvic floors like mad.

Anyone have any advice please?

If this is what I think it is, and bear in mind I may not know what I am talking about here at all, I saw the exact same condition on that Channel 5 programme about embarrassing diseases or whatever it was called. But please do not panic too much because it was actually quite easily dealt with on the programme.

In this case it was a slightly prolapsed uterus - there was an older lady on there who laid on a couch and pushed the equivalent amount of her uterus out to what you are describing on request for 2 million viewers or whatever (even worse than a naked calendar, doing that on telly, but useful information nonetheless).

I think she went to an obstetric physio or gynae as a referral and then they gave her a little day case operation to tidy things up, all sorted, no problem. I think if it's a mild case they can even get you using Aquaflex cones to improve things (like weightlifting for girls' bits).

Apparently it's quite common and easily remedied. I heard a rumour once that Queen Victoria had this but they didn't find out until she died because nobody had ever done an internal on her. I don't know whether that's true.

It's a vaginal prolapse - I've got it. DOn't panic. Pelvic floor exercises will help but I always forget. I saw a gynae and he will sort me out i.e. small op after I've had all my kids but it's not worth doing it if you're having more as the stitches will tear.

I know it's not a nice feeling but don't panic.

Just in case my instinct is right (although I might be completely wrong, of course).

I found the programme - it was a Channel Four one and there's a website. Here's a picture of a prolapse, but it's quite explicit, and you may prefer not to look if it would upset you.

I have a bladder and rectal prolapse, and will eventually have a quick op on it, gynae not wanting to do it yet as too young.

I put off going to docs for ages, but am so relieved I went, GP and gynae were both great.

Thanks BoffinMum, I wish I'd seen that programme! It's my own fault, I've had 3 babies in rapid succession and been pretty rubbish at doing my pf exercises. Seems something like this is pretty common like you say, but it's not something you bring up in normal day-to-day conversation is it?

Have a look at all the advice etc. here Lots of info, and exercises etc., if you do have a prolapse.

BoffinMum's link (warning - quite graphic)

BoffinMum, thanks, just retyped your link and yes unfortunately that does look like what I saw in the mirror earlier.....

Thanks for the replies - I must be slow to type! Also had to go feed dd who woke up. It is good to know I'm not alone or unusual

Feel really concious [sp?] of it now, as if I'm going to start walking funny.

So glad I remembered about that programme if it helped you.

Lady in my village who has had four children calls her prolapse her 'third leg'!!!

As I said, lot of it about!

snooks · 10/11/2008 21:03

BoffinMum - 3rd leg!!

Am not quite at the stage of naming mine yet lol
