Just been to the GP about a mole ... he wants to remove it ASAP and booked me in for tomorrow, is this normal?

Its gone bobbly and grown outwards in all directions.
He is removing it tomorrow with a local, am a bit worried as I am pregnant (33 weeks) and the mole is at the top of my belly.

My mum had a cancerous mole removed last year ... do you think he thinks this could be serious?

will he send it off for testing?

I think they always err on the side of caution and changes in shape/texture are warning signs. It could still be benign though!

Soupy's right, they whip them off just in case. (oo-er missus etc. etc.) I've had five or six moles removed because they changed - all turned out to be benign.

Hope that's reassuring.

(Thanks for reminding me, btw, been meaning to see the GP about another one that's gone funny.)

Try not to worry too much. During pregnancy moles grow and change color. A mole on the tummy on a pregnant woman will of course grow in all directions.

Doctor will definitely send it off for testing (biopsy). I'm not sure how reliable those results will be, though. When I had a big mole get even bigger during pregnancy, I was told it should be removed but that we should wait until after birth & end of breastfeeding, because the hormones during this time meant that the mole would look cancerous even if it's benign.

It might be related to the 'skin tag' phenomenon which happens during pregnancy - I had a lovely row of warty skin tags appear underneath my boobs when I was pregnant. They disappeared a few weeks after the birth. So prob nothing to worry about, hope they can reassure you soon.

Enchanted - I have had five melanomas in 15 years - most times you go to the GP they go eeek, whip them off and analyse them and they say it either is or isn't cancerous but skin cancer is incredibly slow growing so it's fine regardless. Mine were all spotted and removed.

My sister has had quite a few moles removed for the same reasons. She did have a couple that were malignant but they whipped them off and she is fine now. She did have to get thorough check ups every so often for a while though.

Try not to worry and good luck with the baby!

Thanks for the reassurance,

it was growing larger and bobblier before baby was in there.

It was just a bit scary as it was sort of deja-vous of what my mum did ... even the little picture he drew to show me what would happen tomorrow was the same as a a drawing her doctor had done on one of her letters during a consultation.

Im just panicking a few people have got cancer in my family in the last few years so it just sort of panicked me.

Just glad to be getting rid of it regardless, its itchy and horrid!

Ah you'll have a cool scar and that's probably the only lasting effect - don't worry.
