Went this morning because I am now on day 10 of a migraine/headache.

I usually have to take 1.5mg of Pizotifen every day to prevent migraines, but they don't seem to work like they used to.

A week last Saturday, a migraine started. It was bad until Monday and then went down a grade to just a really bad headache. A few more days of this and it has now reduced down to just a headache.

The Gp has taken me off the Pizotifen, and has prescribed beta-blockers. These are called Half Inderal LA (Propanolol Hydrochloride) 80mg. I have taken one, and am hoping for the best, but I seem to have a bit of nervousness about taking beta-blockers. He says that I am getting migraines and also a chronic daily headache (he's not kidding!) and that the new pills should help.

Does anyone here take beta-blockers for migraine????

I also mentioned that I had had a few instances of chest pain, which I had assumed to be heartburn/indigestion. I've now got to have blood tests and an ECG next week! I've also got to phone for an ambulance if I get it again!

I came out of the doctors and had a little weep in the car. I'm sure that I felt tearful because of the never-ending head pain, but actually I feel a bit better just writing this down.

Anyway, the main question is about the beta-blockers.

Anyone??

thanks for that foxinsocks, I have similar probs 2 menstrual migraines each month which dont always respond to triptans so I end up in bed for 3 days until it goes away. I explained all this to my gp who is now going to refer me to a migraine clinic and in the meantime write them to find out if they can manipulate the 2nd half of my cycle with hormones. Think it will be some kind of minipill as I cant tolerate the combined and also over 35. Ive had migraines since I was about 16 and know that I wont get rid of them totally but need to manage the pain better as its making my life/work a misery, not to mention allthe side effects of the tabs etc.

Hi, sorry not had time to read all posts, but I suffered from a severely bad episode of migraines about four years ago. It lasted about three months - I would wake up with a head ache, go to sleep with a head ache. My vision was affected too. I tried loads of medication from my GP (sorry can't remember names) none of which worked, finally got put on beta-blockers. This was the final straw for me, this felt far too extreme and alot of the side-effects of the medications given to me when I read the leaflets were headaches!! I sought out an acupuncturist with a good reputation and had three sessions, the migraines went and have never came back.

Madison, yours sound very similar to mine. Please let me know how it goes with your appointment at the migraine clinic.

Hello,

Two places to look for relief. One is Wild Yam Cream, usually used instead of chemicals for menopause problems. Also, feverfew works for many.

Contact me for sources for both if you have problems.
