Other than being pregnant, is there any reason why my period is 9 days late?

DH and I are ttc, I have done 3 tests and all have been negative, I am now 9 days overdue for my period. They are 99% of the time on time and I have a 28-30 day long cycle.

I have been feeling a little run down lately, could this cause my period to be this late?

This could depend on what birth control you used before ttc - some hormone methods can obviously take a few months before you get a 'real' cycle.

Other than that, stress or illness can cause delayed ovulation. Although we tend to ovulate around the same time each month, the spell between first day of your period (cycle day 1) and day of ovulation can be changeable. The spell after ovulation (luteal phase) is usually very fixed for each person (so if you usually get your period 12 days after you ovulate, this will not change from month to month, although the day that you ovulate might).

If you have an idea of when you ovulated, from physical signs rather than maths, that would help you pinpoint when your period should be due.

Finally, there is always a chance that you just don't have enough HcG (pregnancy hormone) to show up positive on a test yet.

Hope that helps!

Thanks BTLT, no contraception, DD is a year old and periods returned to normal at 4 months (despite bfing) and have been regular since.
Last months period was unusual for me in that I started early and itwas vvvv heavy and only lasted 2 days. Usually last about 5 dyas and are quite light.

Should I wait a while and test again?

TTC has a notorious reputation for mucking up the most reliable of cycles!

Are you watching for the physical signs of ovulation such as cervical mucous? That would give a better idea of when you ovulated.

I have read that an annovulatory cycle (no ovulation) can cause a heavier period - the ttc threads on here can be very enlightening!

Other than that, waiting it out is your only option!

Dusty - your post at 07.52 struck a chord. I had this in Aug/Sept. August I was a few days early (am usually pretty near clockwork) and it was heavier than usual, then Sept I was 6 days late (again, very unusual). I think a combo of the August early and stress of TTC was what threw it out. Was the only reason I could come up with. No other stress in my life or anything but we are ttc.

Sorry you have this. Hope af turns up soon (or you get a bfp) so at least you know where you are. It's a horrible limbo when you're waiting...

Lol, it is so typical isn't it, paying more attention to cycle as ttc, and then everything messes up.

Also I usually get sore boobs about 5 days before I am due on and I have not had that yet.

No unusual stress in my life atm, but the usual everyday things etc.

I am keeping an eye on cm and also using ovulation testing sticks and I ovulated 11 days after the first day of my period this cycle.

You know what I have never heard of annovulatory cycle before I will be looking into that. Could it mess things up on the cycle after?

Attila is the expert on the conception threads! I don't know about cycles following annovulatory, sorry.

As an aside - OV sticks are also notoriously confusing! Sorry if you already know this, but to be positive the test line must be darker or as dark as the conrol line. Tis indicates your LH surge, not ovulation.

Ovulation can occur anywhere from a few hours to 72 hours after the surge.

Many women 'surge' for much of their cycle and some never detect a surge, despite ovulating normally.

A surge is also no guarantee of ovulation - yuo can have more than one surge per cycle.

I used sticks to see if my own symptom-spotting was accurate (mucous, cervical position, ov pain) and fell pregnant after I stopped using them.

In my experience, ttc is stress enough to bugger up cycles.

Thanks, looks like I'll just have to stop worrying about why no period and try to chill about tcc.
