Hi, Im 40 and all my child hood have suffered with tonsillitis and had so much time off school and work because of it.In the last month I have had 2 bouts of it and saw a locom Dr last week who has suggested that I have them removed she is the 1st Dr that has done this as my Dr when I was a child didnt believe in removing them.
I am considering it but at the same time Im worried about the procedure in adulthood and the effects after.Has anyone else had their tonsils removed when they were an adult and how did you feel about the op and how were you after.I would be so grateful for some advice.

I had mine done at 18 (almost an adult!). Like Yorkiegirl, my health improved massively after I'd had them done.

Prior to that, I was told that I had the gladular fever virus lurking in my system, mainly in my manky tonils and every time I got tonsillitis, my glandular fever flared up. This happened for about 2 years.

I remember feeling pretty rough for about 10 days afterwards.

Thankyou for your replies maybe I should ask for them to be removed but Im so scared of the operation Im such a wimp.Littlefish you mentioned Glandular fever the Dr did take a swab and blood test last week as she feels I could have it.I always get tonsillitis once a year it used to be a lot more when I was younger but this year I have had it twice in a month.

It will be interesting to see the results of those blood tests cherryapple. At the time, my GP told me that infected tonsils can harbour all sorts of nasty things!

Hope you get it sorted.
