just had a smear and the nurse positively recoiled in horror at the size of my 'os' eventually she explained she had never seen such an open cervix and wanted me to be seen by a doctor - none available. we are not talking fully dilated, she said it was more like a tunnel!

i have alot of late cycle spotting (reason for having smear) and have had chem. pregs and miscarriage, been ttc for about 3 years.

anyone else had similiar - should i be alarmed. have googled but just found lots of stuff aobut pregnancy and one alarming but too technical to read article about cancer (but i suspect you could google 'feeling great today' and find an article about cancer.

Didn't want your thread to go unnoticed
It does sound an unusual cervical os, in that if a baby hasn't passed through it should be firmly shut, (but not alarming)
Have you ever had any procedures done on your cervix, coil insertion, colposcopy etc?

thanks for caring! i have one dd but she was a cs. i did have an hsg last year. but surely that should have such a bizarre effect?

Was she a very experienced nurse?
It may be more expected as for your HSG they would have passed the dye through your cervix and that instrumentation would have made your previously shut cervix more open and more of a childbirth like cervix than a section type cervix
See your GP and see what they say, but try not to alarm yourself too much.
And probably stop googling

TheGoat - you do need to see someone - it may need a surgical closure to prevent infection. It may be a consequence of the hsg. But hey, see it as a new storage cupboard in the interim, it won't kill you

Where are you in your cycle? If your around ovulation it would be open.

Im a nurse and often see open os on women who havn't had children. Its worth checking as the possibility of furture pregnancy and possible stitch may be required but it is not unheard of. Dont panic, I see abou 10 ladies a day and everyone is different.x

nurse explained it wasn't open in the 'normal' way, she did seem slightly freaked. the hsg thing does make sense [shudder]. i am not ovulating am on day 8.

thanks everyone.
