Any asthmatics that can advise me?

I have had a virus, chest infection, stress related asthma, separately over the last 6 weeks. Still lots of cattarh, AB's did not clear it up, now even though I am taking flixotide and serevent and been back to GP who said, what more do you want me to do (?!), my breathing is really bad, no matter if I take a nebuliser. As the GP has written me off, can anyone advise me on this? Fed up of not being able to breath.

What's your peak flow at the moment? Do you have your own peak flow measury thing?

I've seen various GPs about my asthma over the years and different things have worked different times... anti-histamines (Clarityn can be bought over the counter and is non-drowsy) worked wonderfully one time. Swapping from flixotide to becotide worked another time. Refusing to take anything and just steaming myself over bowl of hot water with a few drops of Lavender oil worked another (although I'd never never recommend refusing to take medication a doctor has prescribed, it was woefully irresponsible of me .

In worst cases GP can prescribed oral steroids. There is definietly more they can do - is there a second GP at your surgery that you can get a further opinion from?

Do you have a Ventolin inhaler? That can take the edge off the wheeziness, (but keep taking the flix and sev too). Is there an Asthma Nurse at your surgery? Find out and see her/him.

Try the asthma nurse. They often have good ideas and will get you in to see someone (maybe else) if they are worried.

I just had a bout of same, lasted weeks. In the end when I was coughing so much I was vomiting, and was wetting myself at the same time (!) I went to docs. A course of oral steroids seem to have done the trick. I feel miles better, still need my inhaler now and again but nowhere near as bad. I afree with suggestion to see the asthma nurse, but in the meantime could you ask for the steroids? They are pretty powerful nbut if your breathing is that bad it needs to be dealt with.

Hi, thanks for the advice. I managed to get hold of other GP, he is giving me steroids, AB's and ventolin. I can't even do basic housework, coz I get out of breath. Yes I have a peak flow meter, usually 450, today, 200! Just got put off by woman GP, that's why I never went back.
