Is anyone clued up on private health insurance?

I currently have Private healthcare via a company healthplan thing.

Whilst already covered by the scheme I developed Type 1 diabetes. I have never so far claimed for anything via this private healthcare, however, should anything come up in the future diabetes-related they would have to cover it.

BUT, it is likely I will be stopping work in the not too distant future. Presumably for any other healthcare provider the diabetes would be a pre-existing and therefore excluded condition...

So what are my options? Will I have to stay with my current provider for ever? Will they still cover it if I move from my company scheme to a personal one with same provider? Obviously I will be asking them but want to have an idea beforehand as I expect they'll be glad to be rid of me!

Many thanks in advance for any advice...

DH's business used to pay for our BUPA , it actually turned out to be more cost effective to pay for it ourselves.. although it is still an eye watering amount..

They don't all exclude pre-existing conditions - the company one I've just joined doesn't (it's AXA)

We have used BUPA and PPP depends on scheme type but ours didnt exclude pre exisiting conditions.

Unfortnuately - I have got my moneys worth from them this year! Its great to have

hmmm, most of the ones I've looked at don't preclude pre-existing conditions IF you haven't required treatment in the past 2 years....obviously Type 1 diabetes requires treatment several times a day! Will have to keep digging...would be foolhardy to lose cover for diabetes related stuff if I have a choice since the long-term complications can be many & varied (although fingers crossed I never suffer from any of them!)
