I've received some pulsatilla softabs for my daughter, and the instructions say "not to be taken within 30 mins of food, drink, toothpaste". This is pretty much impossible most days, as when she gets up she has breakfast immediately then is bundled off to nursery, then when she comes home she gets fed immediately then off to bath/ teeth cleaned/ bed. When do I give the bloody things? Luckily it's just once a day, but I still can't work out when to give them! Is it really that important?

I can't ask the homeopath as she's on holiday right now.

Is naturedoc still around?

Can nursery give them?

bambi06 · 10/03/2005 17:09

did your homeopath not tell you when to give them? if not and it doesnt matter what about on the way home from nursery ..then by the time you`ve got in and prepared tea it should have givenit enough time but apparently it does make a difference to the absorption i think if it s taken with food but only strong foods/drinks

Minty toothpaste is the most important thing to avoid. Otherwise wouldn't worry too much about food and drink- its important to avoid coffee but I doubt she's haviing that

Tissy · 10/03/2005 17:11

it's a thought, I suppose, but then they'd have to find an hour when she wasn't going to eat or drink anything, then remember to give them halfway through. Not sure I trust them to be that meticulous, and if it's really important, I want to get it right.

thanks, jimjams, she hates minty toothpaste, so would it be alright to give them after her bedtime routine, or are they loaded with sugar?

Jimjams (sorry to crash, folks) - I'm sure I've asked you before, but I've searched and I can't find it - is it just coffee you have to avoid... can you drink tea? Or is it the caffeine that's bad?

I think that these substances affect the potency of the remedy. I found this:

Nothing else should be put in the mouth for 20 minutes before or after taking the remedy, not even toothpaste or cigarettes. Your homeopath will usually advise that, while you are having homeopathic treatment, you should not take any coffee or peppermint, nor should you use any eucalyptus oil, camphor, or menthol because these strong smelling substances spoil the effect of most homeopathic remedies.

Ignore the bit about cigarettes!

Speaking of menthol - we asked the homeopath about using those vaporisers with the menthol tablets when ds has a cold and is taking remedies and she said not to worry and use them.

can you give to her while she sleeps.. homeopathic pills are normally pretty small and dissolve in the mouth

juniperdewdrop · 11/03/2005 15:56

you can crush them too, between two teaspoons and dribble it in the mouth as they sleep.

You can get toothpaste especially to go with homeopathic remedies I think? Maybe check out holland and barret?

You are not even supposed to touch the pastules with your fingers and definitely no food or toothpast should come into contact with them, otherwise they lose their potency.

If you buy the pulsatilla from the local chemist they come in the "green" bottle (cant remember the name) and they are sweet. My son loves them and thinks they are candy, very easy to give to kids, well at least mine anyway. You could put the pill in a plastic bag, crush it up with a spoon and pour contents into the mouth. Its pretty hard to spit out powder.
