ok so my son is now 7 weeks old and in the last couple of weeks the following has happened

i went to be discharged from mv 2 weeks after birth and she says you still look quite stuck out and has a feel says that tummy muscles are a bit too far apart (any further and physio would be needed) and gives me some posnatal exercises to do - which i have done religiousley but they don;t seem to ave worked

so at my 6 week postnatal check i mentioned my tummy muscles to the doc and she had a feel and says no no they have gone back but she only checked the bottom ones under my naval

when i got home i noticed when trying to sit ups that my tummy still peaked which i thought meant they had not returned to wherethey should be

i googled it and checked myself and they where still far apart and i noticed that i had a bulge above my naval

went back to docs yesterday and explained and he checked it out said it was prob a hernia and that my stomach mucsles were too far apart and that i should do some exercise such as sit ups to bring it back togther and cure the hernia

he was dismissive and looked at me like i was daft when i said that the midwife had said not to do situps when the muscles had been seperated as it can make them stay that way

anyway now i have been feeling a bit off it for the past couple of weeks and now wonder could this be connected? should i exercise or not?

and why could he not just bloody refer me and then maybe i would know who i was supposed to listen to !!

do i go back to the docs again? don;t want them to think that i am a hypochondriac but i really do not want to exercise and make things worse

I'd speak to your MW/HV and see if you could be referred to a womens health physiotherapist. ALternatively see another GP at your practice and ask them to do a referral.

i have just looked on their website and have selected a lady maybe more sympathetic gp to book an appointment with

but what should i say? just that i have honestly been doinf these bloody exercises and i am not getting anywhere

i think that i have been like this after my dd was born 3 years ago too and not realised as i was not told that it was possible that your muscles may not move back of their own accord and have done loads of sit ups now ...ooops

thanks i think that i will just have to be a bit more pushy bu my resolve always seems to slip when i am actually with the doc god knows why but i always feel like i am wasting their time
