I feel so angry with patronising Docs,

My ds has just gone 2 and last Thursday had terrible temperature and sore throat. G.P (not mine who is on holiday) prescribed antibiotics for tonsilitis and said it 'could' be viral in which case he wouldn't need them but to give them as he was so ill with it.
He has never had them aand reacted badly to penicillin. Vomited every time and hated it.
On Sat i took him to A+E to see if they had an alternative and ask them to swab to see if he needed them at all. The Doc said most tosilitis is caused by bacteria (which is total opposite to what i've read) and he must take them. The nurse them came in and started asking how he was vomitting, was it just he dadn't like the taste? I explained that i DID know the difference. In the enbd the Doc said well i 'could' take a swab if you want me to. I said i did as i didn't want to put him through another 8 days of this if he didn't need it.

Guess what, turns out today that it's viral so didn't even need it!! Why can't they swab in the first place? I totally don't understand it and think if an adult was saying i'm vomitting with this medicine they would be more likely to take it seriously!!

I understand you being annoyed but the reason for giving antibiotics in kids with sore throats is to prevent rheumatic fever which can have severe consequences in later life.
