i absolutely loved Dianette.

electra · 27/10/2008 14:23

Microgynon is notoriously awful...I have never actually heard of someone who didn't have bad effects from it...

BlackPussyCat · 27/10/2008 14:23

Marvelon worked well for me. No experience of any others though.

DeJaVousdoo · 27/10/2008 14:25

Celest worked well for me for a few years.

Cezarette is best avoided IME.

Jasmin is supposed to be very good, but I didn't get on with it myself.

Zebraa · 27/10/2008 15:00

I heard yasmin wasn't very reliable though?

expatinscotland · 27/10/2008 15:07

Yasmin is a combined contraceptive pill and more effective than a progesten-based pill if taken correctly.

jooseyfruit · 27/10/2008 15:11

cerazette turns me insane.
marvelon gave me melasma and i look like i have a handlebar moustache!!!!!!

Joosey!

Insane and moustacheoed

That really is bad luck!

DeJaVousdoo · 27/10/2008 15:26

What lulabellarama says is broadly true, unfortunately. There are a few pills that a disproportionate number of women have problems with (like Cezarette), but there are also a lot of women have no problems with them.

It's trial and error really

I think I tried 4 or 5 (maybe 6) pills before I found the Celest, it was fine for years. But, when I needed to go back on the pill (after not being in a relationship for a couple of years) I found it didn't suit me at all anymore.

electra · 27/10/2008 16:24

Yes, before I had children I used Trinovum with no ill effects at all. I tried in about a year ago and my skin was covered in craters - absolutely awful.

Zebraa · 28/10/2008 11:43

I just thought there are some that have very bad reps for not working/causing horrid size effects? Thanks for your advice.

kerryk · 28/10/2008 14:29

i am on dianette, only thing that cleared up my skin and there is no way i will be changing!!!!

MegGriffin · 28/10/2008 16:44

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I have taken Microgynon for years with no side effects at all.

babyignoramus · 29/10/2008 17:17

I was told by my nurse that Microgynon pops up in these discussions more often because its the cheapest pill and therefore the one that most people are started on initially - so nearly everyone's had it! It gave me terrible heavy periods and pains (which was why I was taking it the first place - not impressed!). I then went on Cilest which is good, but to be avoided if you suffer with high BP or headaches/migraines (although I thinks that's true of all combined pills). Before I decided to get pregnant I was taking a progesterone only called Micronor which I liked, no side effects that I could tell.
